Doing whatever you love is the most /fa/ option

That being said college isn't /fa/, only dropping out and sucking cock for crack.
>>
Just study what makes you happy/intellectually fulfilled. If not that, then go for a career-based degree - don't study you think will make you cool

i-is this actually the best thing to do?
im struggling alot with the science papers (was trying to do physics but im very poor at math) im doing, but the asian studies papers ive been doing i find i am good at + i find them interesting. although i dont like to think this way, im concerned that an arts degree doesnt result in anything but a job at a retail store.
>>
Most of the people I encounter in economics are boring as fuck. That said, they seem disproportionately good at suiting compared with other corporates in the same pay bracket. Outside of work, they all seem to wear shitty shorts and polos.

In terms of the field itself, I wouldn't say it is looked upon particularly highly. It's pretty clear that most people aren't interested in the field.

I was always told to study something I genuinely enjoyed and was good at. Perhaps my career prospects will be limited by my degree, but I know I will do well in it because I actually care about it.

If you don't like/aren't good at science/maths, then don't do study them. You'll hate your time at university and probably not do very well either.

About what you said of an arts degree, you may be right. But I think that depends on the prestige of your university. I know that my degree will have clout because of the reputation of my university, but I can see why someone applying to less prestigious places would be more interested in a more practical degree.

Don't listen to faggots telling you to follow what you love. It is true in a sense, but you are paying a lot of money and time to acquire skills. Getting are more difficult degree gives you a higher market place value, because less people have those skills and you can prove that you can work hard.
>>
>>11113501
Econ is dope but I am biased because that is my major. What I got out of the major is really a way of thinking and analyzing real world situation.

But I will say you need to think about what career you want to go into. My wife is an Econ major and went into medicine, I went in to software.

It wouldn't hurt double majoring in something like applied math or stats. You can be an actuary, work with data or even get your phd and become an academic.
>>
>>11113661
i do like physics alot, im just terrible at the math component of it which is the majority. like you say, i was not doing well. i go to auckland university which is pretty terrible, but the best in the country (new zealand) based on world university rankings.

>>11113844
that's the issue, i have trouble working hard if i cant sort of innately get something + have that something interest me. i excelled at history in high school and did well in an asian studies paper i did last year, but being a science major i cant take alot of asian studies papers. i was looking at just improving my gpa, then switching to a BSC geography/BA asian studies or history.
>>
There's opportunity to be /fa/ in any field.
In some ways, being in an industry with a low percentage of /fa/ people gives you the opportunity to be even more /fa/ by comparison.
>>
Biochem major here, on a premed track. I'm so much fun at parties.
>>
>>11113866
Honestly math was my weak subject but it just means you need to practice a lot get better. Sure if you hate it then go with something you love. But, it sounds like you are just taking the easy route instead of challenging yourself. Why not double major with physics as one of them.

Meme this, meme that. Quite the catch all buzzword there. Friedman actually understood the morality of freedom. And he was able to backup up his positions with hard numbers and statistics.

Don't need to be upset because Friedman had ideas that didn't fit into your world view.

Yeah, don't listen to this advice if it applies to college or degrees. Only go through this when you have a stable job, and have a means to fallback on if shit hits the fans.
>>
>>11113639

Tech it out. Pack that shit full of econ/finance/statistics courses & pick up a critical language (Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Japanese, Portuguese, etc.) Politics/culture classes are worthless.
>>
Get something that has a more technical background. If its not technical and you love it, you can still do it without having to spend a shitton of money on a degree.

More than half the stuff you would learn in any class you can find for free online so its worth getting a degree that can get you places.

IR reporting in. this major is really great if you get a usable language and some practical knowledge of econ, etc with it, maybe do some internships

if you don't have those or connections though, you're fucked tbqh /fa/m
>>
CS is pretty /fa/, at least in my country. I heard it's shit in the US. Otherwise electrical engineering is the most /fa/ STEM program.
>>
Film Studies is packed with mindblowingly un-effay people. I've never seen shit like this before, I say JUST internally at least 4-5 times a day. It's unreal. You'd think an artistically based degree would have people with a little more personal expression, but no they all look like shit. Sure there's a handful of exceptions, but overall it's bad.

The problem with this degree is that you've got a whole bunch of fucking nerds and weirdasses that think they can make films because they've seen every Avengers shit. Jesus, we went around the room at the beginning of the semester and asked what people thought were the best movies ever made. NIgga somebody said Avatar, another clown said Iron Man. Fuck. No wonder why these kids wear Skechers running shoes and bootcut jeans motherfuckers have zero taste.

I'm not usually the type to say I'm above other people, but in the case of personal taste in films and other art forms I can safely say I am on a different level from these kids. It's frustrating because I want to be good at this shit and work with other people who are ambitious, but so far I'm running short on luck.

Thankfully I'm double-majoring with Political Science and am on track to go to Law School. And least I can wear nice suits as a lawyer.

I personally think that pursuing management advisory services MBA is where its at. It seems more chill.

Also, have you heard the news that accountancy grads who DIDNT take and/or pass the board exams can now take auditing jobs that only CPAs should be able to get? Im in Asia so that ruling might be active now in the States, but its causing a lot of ruckus. Pinochet was a hardcore Christian traditionalist who would have otherwise been socialist if he didn't see the effect it had in other South American countries. So, yes, he incorporated Chicago pro market ideas. The result was that despite being a totalitarian state, the country fared of much better than its neighboring socialist hell holes.

Friedman wanted economic liberalism with the social liberalism. Friedman was just willing to work with people that are not 100% on board with his ideas. Friedman had to live with supporting the Chilean dictator as well as other ideas he later regretted suggesting (monetarism, tax witholding, etc). Meanwhile people who never "gave in to evil" such as Mises ended up having to teach at NYU for free. On the bright side, NYU used to be /fa/ and Mises is by far the more respectable of the two.

Speaking of college, I want to learn a language but the only units I can do at my (Australian) uni are Indonesian, Spanish, Mandarin and Arabic. I kind of want to do something like Italian or German but am less inclined to because it doesn't seem at all useful (and also isn't as readily available)

So here's sombody recently graduating a master's in medieval history talking. I've spent a year teaching high schools as I thought that was my calling (and what everybody pushed me into thinking was right). I wanted to hang myself every single morning of that period. Use that feeling to push yourself and search for something you enjoy. It's better being miserable doing something you like than being miserable and doing something you hate. In the end it all gets better but you wont get it for free.

Tl;dr, do whatever the fuck you want. At this rate you're going to kill yourself anyway, so you might as well take a shot at something you like.

what >>11115185 says is true i feel at most middle-of-the-mall schools, and there were a few of these kids at my school but it was sort of well established and urban, so more /fa/ people there
the real question is, op, do you want to have 4-6 years of semifa and self conscious life, or do you want to learn and love what you do?

i found the years (first two) i spent trying to be a fashionable art student in appearance were the years i learned the least and looked honestly like a tool. the next two years i sort of gave in to the lifestyle of studying and suddenly became
a) much better at school, more aware and eager and a better classmate / collaborator
b) more social b/c i wasn't so self aware
c) honestly in reflection i became more fashionable because i had real goals and a foundation of living and i just sort of made better choices out of that. i feel style can be achieved from any position in life as long as you have a primary goal OTHER than style. that is the nonchalance and effortless nature of the best and most stylish people, they are not living for the sake of cool living, not dressing for the sake of cool clothes. they have other aspirations in life which they drape in nice cloth.

so do what you fucking want man. there will be cute girls in (almost) every program.

That's because you lack imagination and the skills to market yourself. Cultivating these skills is important for anyone outside STEM (and for all but a select few within it).

>Getting are more difficult degree gives you a higher market place value, because less people have those skills and you can prove that you can work hard.
Market value for degrees has fuck all to do with how difficult they were. If that were true, business degrees would be a lot harder to get and PhDs would pay out quite a bit more (getting an undergraduate degree in anything is a joke).
