As if the Jesus and Mary Chain aren't proto-shoegaze.
Learn your indie pop history.

Stephen Pastel only wore Clarks.
Can we bring desert boots back?
>>
Jesus and the Mary Chain is Noise Pop, not shoe-gaze. Shoe gaze wasn't even a established genre in the mid eighties.

It is considered the main inspiration towards shoegaze, along with Cocteau Twins. The Jesus & Mary Chain were on the same label as bands like My Bloody Valentine, Ride, and Slowdive. Creation Records were really the label that invented shoegaze or at least made it somewhat of a popular genre until Nirvana came around.

>missing the point entirely
I just used them as an example. I meant more Creation/C86-core than Jesus-and-Mary-Chain-core. The Jesus and Mary Chain is just a very good band.

I legitimately cannot get into PsychoCandy. it's like a weird anomaly that I enjoy most of the other music people who enjoy this album enjoy but I just do not like this album
>>
>>11029567
Listen to their album Darklands, it's psychocandy without the noise, then go back and visit psychocandy. You appreciate it a lot more

or listen to white light/white heat over and over until you 'get it'
>>
clicked in hopes of some Undercover fits involving the collection dedicated to this, but I guess part of the irony of shoegaze-core and the like is that none of you can actually afford Undercover and stuff. I'll see myself out.

I don't know why it's such an argument on whether on not The Jesus and Mary Chain are Shoegaze or Noise Pop. They are proto-shoegaze and are one of the main influences towards the shoegaze sound. They are a noise pop band, but everything that was great about their first album made the genre shoegaze. Even the style and attitude.

If you're looking for different shoegaze influences, I would look at bands in the 60s because that's what inspired the fashion. Look the The Velvet Underground, The Beatles, and The Byrds.
