never heard of ships. Anyone know how the quality of their shoes compares to say alden?
>>11007988
you are doing god's work!, also I see you have popeye and you take requests! that's amazing!, I wouldn't mind donating to support the uploadings! : ) (also donating to request Baila Magazine : P )
>>11007996
That's a great question
Ships is one of the bigger chain stores in Japan (along with the At Scelta stores and World stores) but they're not gonna compare to Alden, unless the shoes are explicitly produced by a big American company. They're a high end fast fashion brand. Fair warning: you're gonna have trouble finding any shoes bigger than an American 9.5
>>11004465
it's a little surreal to see brands like chippewa and wolverine right alongside obscure artisanal japanese shoemakers
>>11008056
They're obsessed with the Big Four in Japan
>>11008056
You should Lightning and 2nd's Boot Bibles
They romanticize Red Wing and Danner more than America's romanticize streetwear juggernauts like Bape and CDG
>>11008003
That pair seems to be MiUSA for an exclusively japanese market. Is that the norm for ships or was that just a one-off alden collaboration?
There's a trend of producing shoes in America or Europe and selling them exclusively to entirely different markets that I find a little odd.
>>11008065
>>11008059
That fascination with good outdoor/workwear is pretty neat. Does that mean they're big on workwear clothing brands like Carhartt as well?
>>11004420
fuck why can't my danners look that slim
>>11008075
They call it Trad, short for American Traditional
Boots, denim, workwear, prep/ivy, etc
It's been a trend on Japan for fifty years.
It adds cred to an American company to do one-off collaborations with boutique Japanese labels. And in some instances, the foreign business is keeping companies alive (or even bringing then back from death, as is the case with MEI, Outdoor Products, Chums, Traditional Weatherwear, XLARGE, XGIRL, Milkfed, and a very long list of other western brands)
>>11008077
You know they offer two different widths on their boots, right? Maybe you got EE instead of D
>>11008075
They do that because culture is different uniqlo has American market specific clothes
And Levis are $100 jeans in Europe with leather patches and slim cuts
>>11008151
I talked to an employee at Patagonia and he said that the market specific stuff in Japan is awesome. But the site doesn't show anything different so I don't know what he was talking about....maybe it's in-store only
>>11007957
If I could I'd buy you a drink.
>>11008151
>>11008158
I have such a mixed feeling about all this.
On one hand, knowing there are whole categories of quality goods from brands you like that you've never seen before brings a bit of excitement.
On the other, you'll probably never fucking touch them.
>>11008146
EE or D shouldn't affect the look of the shoe that much. I think it might be a Japan-exclusive - take a look at the american danner online store. I don't think you'll find anything shaped that slim.
>>11008173
Uh
Start getting Japanese newsletters and you'll be caught up on drops
They're stuff sells out during reservation sometimes
Get a Japanese address
You can get the same stuff that they show in magazines
Actually go to Beams or Ciaopanic. They even have a section where they go over which magazine items are available on their site (spoiler: shit sells out fast but it's attainable. I have something that I saw in an old issue of Smart)
>>11008196
thanks for the info guy
>>11008142
It's actually considered Rugged, while Trad is more North-East Coast prep
