the 'folk punk' that ppl care about occured pretty much in the years I mentioned if a bit earlier as a counterpart to the freak folk and indie folk scenes. Yes violent femmes made similar music decades ago but they're not part of the same continuity.

Folk punk "fashion" in my experience is usually just a mishmash of crust punky stuff and indie/tumblrcore shit. At least for most of the kids in the "scene". In my opinion to actually be "folk punk", not just look like you listen to pat the bunny, you pretty much just dress literally like you're homeless. Not thrift store slackercore shit, actually looking like a homeless person. Tough, functional, very distressed clothes, big boots, lots of layers when it's cold and dirty plain t-shirts when it's hot, bandanas (beyond just looking edgy, actual hoboes carry them to avoid breathing train exhaust in tunnels). Actual workwear, not hipster americana fashion, should be your imspo. Maybe throw a couple patches on your jacket for DIY PUNK CRED. For god's sake, no crust pants though, those are so ugly.
