No stupid, on a 2 button jacket you always button the top and leave the bottom undone. Never heard of the "always, never" rule? For 3 button jackets it's the "sometimes, always, never" rule, meaning sometimes button the top, always button the middle, never the bottom. You open your jacket completely when you sit.
