seconded; Hawthorne is the place to go. Look at Buffalo Exchange for more trendy, higher-end thrift, Red Light Clothing Exchange for more eccentric thrift, House of Vintage in between. Check out Village Merchant on SE Division and 42nd or so (big store, go find the clothing) for a nice selection.
