Don't get me wrong, if I was rich I would travel a lot. It can be fun. Maybe some people expand their perspective with it, but everyone I know who travels a lot have come back just as narrow minded as how they left. The only thing extra they got out of it that they wouldn't have from a documentary is the obnoxious sense of authority from seeing things first hand. If you're open minded you can gain a lot of perspective just by looking at media from around the world and interacting with people online (or even talking to the variety of people within your own community if it's multicultural). I imagine riding an elephant is a fun experience, but it isn't going to change your world view unless your world view was pretty narrow to begin with.
What I don't like is that a lot of Americans look at travel as a substitute for hobbies that require skill or creativity, like it makes them interesting by default. I've seen girls get judgy if you either don't think travel is the end-all or haven't been anywhere in a while.

With that said, many of the American tourists I've met during my travels were quite boring and I can totally understand if they didn't take away as much from their traveling as others' may have done. For example, the 'safari crowd' who buy all those traditional safari clothes, a big ass camera and then just sit in the car and take a couple pictures for their facebook profile before going back home again.
I remember straying from a tour path with a friend once in Thailand, and we found this beautiful waterfall where you could climb half-way up, actually sit in the middle of the waterfall on a rock and just chill there while having a beer or two (or a joint or two) before riding down the mountain again.
Same goes for the 'charter' (all-inclusive) travelers from my country. Jesus how I try to avoid speaking my native tongue when I see any of them abroad.

I tried really fucking hard to find a serious hobby through which I could socialize with women.
A real hobby. That is, an enjoyable activity with milestones however insignificant where you can throw yourself into ater work or on sundays mornings.
Like travel totally does not count. I love travelling but it's not a timewaster so to speak. One does not travel to toronto or to rome after work and before diner.
I must insist the activity should have some sort of social nexus. Like a regular meeting where you drop in and get to casually meet people and stuff. I tried SO MANY THINGS.
Flying lessons. Cool as shit. Total sausage fest.
Chess club. Awesome. Dong Magnet.
Knitting. Couldn't find a club. Ended making friends with a 76 yo grandma who runs a sewing/alterations type of store. Knitting people do it in their homes but don't gather really.
Motorcycle racing. Sausage as expected.
Foreign languages meetups at hipster bookstore. 50yo demographics, surprisingly full of dudes.
Book club at same bookstore. 60yo retired classics professors. ALL OF THEM.
Cooking classes. Full of already formed couples in their first 4 months of relationship. Was the only single dude. Weird.
Local conservatory. Actually full of women they don't offer classes to adults, kids only.
Local entrepreneur meetup luncheon. Weinerfestival.
Quiz night at the pub, a real hotdog stand.

Dancing is always a very good strategy, though obviously a lot of girls in the dance scene are both taken and used to guys showing up to meet girls. You should expect that you won't be taken seriously until you show a genuine interest, not just a "I'm here, fuck me!" sort of attitude.
Social clubs also work, though the girls can be douchey. I've made friends through them, but never girlfriends (though some autist tried to make me give a really weird girl my number... haha no)

Just sign up for a class in architecture, business administration or whatever and you'll be swimming in pussy.
