What are some women's wardrobe essentials? What's trending in women's fashion right now? I completely culled my wardrobe and saved two grand to start the process of rebuilding and need some help.

Without getting too far afield (i.e. this is somewhat meme but flexible basic, essential style) I would say:
>cream or ivory button-down silk shirts
>fitted wool blazer with slight pagoda shoulders
>wool blend skirts in jewel tones
>fitted (black?) dress that hits above the knee (either sheath, wrap, or tunic style depending on body type)
>gabardine coat
>skinny leather jacket
>good pair of denim jeans
>good pair of black skinny jeans
>3 inch black pumps
>jewelry and accessories to taste
That shit will take you most anywhere

Also have to add that your age and occupation will definitely alter/factor into this. If it's a capsule wardrobe that will see you through for years to come, that will be trickier...

Thanks for the help! I guess I should mention that I'm a 21 y/o college student so I mostly wear casual clothes during the week and only dress up when I go out on weekends. Could I replace the black pumps with a nice pair of black mules?
