I dunno if ancient people had much of a concept of the future. Lunarcore works because we have a lot of futuristic space and science fiction related fodder from the past hundred or so years, mostly the time since the industrial revolution. In ancient times, no one had a concept of space as a place where humans could go. Most thoughts were grounded on Earth and I'd imagine it was really hard to conceive of the future before there was a lot of technology to extrapolate from.
The same goes for fashion. I don't think Romans in togas were thinking about how to progress pants or whether to add ribbing to the arms of their clothes. At that point clothing was still mostly about function and the biggest jump was adding some gold brocade or something.
The avant garde people in ancient times were the thinkers, philosophers, and artists, the true renaissance men.

It's definitely waterproof and breathable. On par with goretex stuff I've owned (never had any goretex pro though).
As for where to get it, I know Acronym used to use it quite a bit but I think they dropped it since it does show wear after a while. Usually you can keep an eye out on grailed or ebay to grab a jacket or some pants for a decent price.

Copped an old edition of an alpha industries jacket for cheap since nobody liked the colorway. I think it's the refueler? Any orange bomber would work. The patches come from the same company NASA uses, AB-emblems. Turns out they sell to the public as well. Has an ISS back patch covering up hideous text on the back.

I think lunarcore encompasses more than just silhouette, in fact I think silhouette is one of the less important aspects of the style, loosely form fitting works best to invoke the utilitarian side imo
Of course actual spacewear is bulky but you have to interpret and invoke that in a real world context; I think that's best achieved through quilted and padded details more than an overall cumbersome silhouette
I personally go for more of a "stuff you would wear under your spacesuit and aboard the craft", with some suit influences rather than actual spacesuit myself
