Shooes n' shorts?

This is something that has always stumped me... What shooes can you pull off in shorts. Anytime I wear anything other than sandals I feel weird. Advice ?

Low tops only, preferably white and no show or 3/4 socks. CPs, vans and i suppose some oxfords like DMs 1461 work mostly. Hightops are a pretty shit unless you are a girl with long thin legs. Optimal sock colour would be white, white/blue stripe, white/red stripe or black. Sometimes plain yellow socks work but only in certain areas (beach)

DM 1461 looks like shit with shorts, though.
Those other shoes would look all right. It's hard, though. Everything just looks better with pants. There are very few fits that actually look better with shorts than they would with some sort of light material pants.

There's some "Rail" shoes at most Nordstrom Racks that look fairly similar
