ITT we recommend what the best basics are. Obviously there's a price vs. quality debate which we can discuss.

I've split it into 3 (well 4) main categories:

Tshirts
Sweatshirts
Hoodies
Hoodies with zips

Jeans, outerwear, shoes are a whole different subject so let's just stick to tops.

Some brands to start with:

Très Bien Merch
Norse Projects
Acne Studios
APC
Reigning Champ
Uniqlo
Sunspel
T by Alexander Wang
J.Crew
>>
>>10808456
Reigning Champ would be my pick if they had metal ends on the drawstrings and no branded patch on the hem. Can't go wrong with Norse sweaters though.
>>
>>10808456
Wang is trash
>>
>>10808456
>a list of fairly expensive brands
>Uniqlo
>>
if you are a poorfag then you can get the same basic shit from places like topman h&m and asos
>>
>>10808865
No. Uniqlo is better than all of these places.

For sweaters that you'll wear a lot invest in something like Norse or Acne.
>>
>>10809388
fuck, is acne supposed to be good? Ive heard do many mixed opinions that i just dont know.
>>
Figured I'd post here since I don't think it deserves its own thread
I need a new pair of nice daily wear jeans
I've been wearing unbranded but the damn crotch area is just too much for me to handle
Anyone know a nice comfortable pair of jeans I could wear daily for just out and about stuff?
I'm looking at <$150
>>
>>10808456
any white t-shirt will do desu. It really doesn't matter as long as it doesn't fall apart after a month.

Sweatshirts I usually thrift, gr8 bang 4 ur buck

hoodies I go to sportswear shops, adidas has good ones. Lots of adidas to be found in thrift stores too.

Honestly for basics, the brand doesn't matter, Uniqlo and acne are good, yes. Norse projects have great shirts and sweaters, but maybe a bit pricey, can get away for less.

Also why aren't buttondowns included, those are way more important to get right
>>
>>10808456
Handled my first norse tee 2 days ago, super impressed by how thick and substantial it was and cutting was good. I'd cringe retail pricing but for the 80 aud sale i'd say its worth it. Any other suggestions for similar? I subsist on mainly uniqlo sized up for drapier clothing but have been trying others too.

If you ever visit Asia Sifr is good and price is decent, an upgrade from qlo's supimas.

Loopwheeler if you have access to jap garms for sweats and what have you

Otherwise i've got an AA hoodie cz why not and carhart sweat, both serve their purpose well

Any Aussies fux around with basikke?
>>
>>10808456
Everything on that list is a step about Zara. Buy some high quality basics from Amadei or Devoa to get started.
>>
>>10809547
COS
Nudies on sale (make sure its got a higher rise)
Uniqlo (kek)
Heck i've got an old zara jeans thats about 5-6 years old. Personally i find 1-2% elastane is what i need for comfort
>>
Tried many t shirts but my favorite is Costco brand tees. Thick enough to keep you warm and for the nipples to not show through, and cheap enough to be easily replaceable but last a substantial time.

High quality basics is usually a meme guys as you pay mostly for things not related to quality.

>>10809388
Acne is overpriced garbage. I recommend any Canadian outdoors brand.
>>
Where can I pick up a white tee that won't show my nipples? Something that isn't insanely overpriced, either? Just a white tee.
I have one Arizona (JCPenney) white tee that you can see nips, chest hair, and pants through in certain lighting. Might be alright in the sun.
>>
>>10810601
>Nudies
Anyone know if they size large or size small?
I'm a 31" waist proper
I checked to see if anyone sold them where I live but apparently can't be found after a couple boutiques closed a year ago
>>
Buy all basics from acnes. Jeans, trousers, outerwear included. Invest heavily in shoes and boots from top tier brands/designers. Also subtle use of jewelry will make a basic outfit look more thoughtful

Acne isn't garbage, the stuff they make is great quality and fits perfectly. It's expensive, but you just cop in the sale.

I've got loads of acne jeans and I always get them when they're 40-60% off.

Latest pair are the Ace Raw and they're cut from Japanese denim and made in Italy.

i have an aa hoodie and it's awesome, the crew neck sweat isn't as nice. it feels cheap and has definitely shrunk. also, all my aa tees have shrunk in the wash substantially, but ive had those for almost a year and paid like 12 bucks each for them on sale. id say when aa is on sale their basics are worth it

>I've heard do many mixed opinions that i just dont know
Primarily /fa/ I suppose? Acne has great quality, though it's slightly expensive. The Ace/Max Cash were /fa/'s go to black jeans a few years back (pretty sure most people here still keep them in the back of their wardrobes). Their tees are heavenly. Opinion has changed because of Acne's recent endorsement of social justice and of course 4chan can't stand it.

Personally I suggest you buy second-hand to avoid paying full-price, and your money doesn't go directly to Acne, if social justice bothers you too much.
>>
Was gonna just buy H&M oversized tshirt, oversized hoodie and maybe some black skinny jeans. Should I change or just go through with the order?
>>

Seconding this. My nipples are puffy as fuck, I look horrible in white shirts. I got some CK t-shirts in a present during Christmas and they don't show the nipples but they fit like shit, way too wide around the waist.

What does /fa/ think of Reigning Champ? Is it worth the money?

The only thing that puts my off slightly is that they're a bit 'sporty'. I think it's the cream coloured drawstrings, and the fact that they're shoelace flat rather than rounded.

How are Our Legacy t shirts?
>>
>>10816070
Depends on what you define as 'worth'.

Everything is made from Egyptian cotton which is exceptionally soft, and it's still produced in factories in England.

If you've got the cash then the quality is great, but £55 for a plain t-shirt is a lot of money and no doubt the markup is ridiculous.
>>
>>10816140
Our Legacy stuff is pretty much on par with Norse Projects I'd say.

I think they make some of their stuff in the same factories.

>>
>>10816373

>>
>>10816373
Dunno. Hermès in general is expensive as fuck, even their normal leather.

You're probably paying £1k for the leather and £99k for the prestige of the brand.
>>
John Elliott has some crazy good quality and nice basics
>>
>>10809388

Topman especially does stuff that are a step above basic though (in design, colour, materials, not quality necessarily) where as Uniqlo is literally the very basics, a grey sweater, a white tee
>>
>>10816402
I know Hermes has a massive, massive markup. It's just that alligator/croc is absurdly expensive in general. A decent bag will run you around $8000+ USD.

>>10816382
You'd think people would start farming them, then, if their leather goods can demand such a freakish price.
>>
>>10814128

>>
Anyone wear James Perse tees? They're $95 but I got mine on sale and it's the best fitting tee I own. It's as slim as all my other size small tees in the waist without being tight or short everywhere else. I'm 6'1 145-150 and have a 38" chest

The term ‘Loopback’ is a literal description of the particular knit that features loops on the underside of the fabric and is the technical term given to the fabric commonly used for sweatshirts. The name comes from ‘Loopwheel’, the traditional knitting machine that was historically used to knit the fabric.

The traditional Loopwheel minimised the tension of the knit. Conversely, the face of our modern ‘Q40 Loopback’ is tightly knitted from two fine yarns, creating a fabric that is more resistant to pilling (getting bobbles) which creates a less stodgy feel than typical sweatshirt fabric.

Having the loops on the back of the fabric was originally designed to allow the sweatshirt to absorb sweat from your body and pass it into the garment to keep you cool. Our sweat top traps warm air to provide and insulating layer.

SLP and MMM (and other high fashion companies) while obviously make good quality garments, don't make the best.

Companies which specialise in basic goods like Sunspel will have better quality than SLP. Sunspel have their own factories and can oversee all operation.

Most high fashion brands outsource production to external factories – in fact most brands even share the same factories.

You'll be better buying shoes from a specialist company that only makes shoes rather than cop some SLP boots or Raf Simons derbies.

You'll be better buying some high quality, Japanese selvedge denim from a small independent rather than some fashion jeans from Dior.
