Imo all you need is good photography. No one wants to see cool/expensive shit if you can't make it look good, nice photography can make anything look good. So unless you have a camera that can take nice pictures or you have a good knowledge of photography and cab make subpar cameras take good photos I wouldn't make one.

Some I guess, most not at all they are very busy. Just because his images and shapes are very simple and imperfect does not make them childish. The paintings are still quite complex and contain large amounts of detailed work. He was not a particularly talented painter but to rule his paintings as childlike even if you are labeling them that way with good intentions is taking away from the paintings; pigeonholing them and reducing what they are attempting to be.

My original comment may have come off as an expense to Basquiat's "simple" art when intended to be a "laughing with him/you" type of situation. My bad. I sincerely respect his work.
I'll admit that I've never taken an art education course and know little about his work besides the movie, a few documentaries, and Google.
In that sense I am somewhat of an art pleb. You got any resources for me to read up about him or other artists to recommend?

Ligon has some similar work imo, there are definitely intentional childlike elements in his work. Similar dissonant and chaotic styles. They also have some overlapping messages.
To be perfectly honest Im not as well read on artists and their work as I should be either.
