Does anyone else here feel nostalgic for 2006/2007 era emo? I admit that it was stupid, and I never even fully embraced the look myself, but most of my friends at the time did.

I don't have any nostalgia whatsoever for late 2008/2009 "scene" though.

I hope neither look ever makes a comeback, but man, for some reason that era makes me nostalgic as hell. I'm listening to all the bands that were popular back then even though they're shit.

Hell no. I hated that even at the time. 2007 emo was the best.

I sense a 2000s revival happening in five or ten years. You know how people obsess over the 90s now? That will definitely happen with the 2000s, even if it's in an ironic sense.

I still remember when people obsessed over the 80s and didn't give a shit about the 90s. The most vocal userbase on the internet is always the 18 - 21 year old userbase and the userbase tends to obsess over the decade they were born in, don't remember very well, and have a romantic view of.
>>
>>10630293

Was emo really a thing outside of the US?
>>
>>10630287
I hated it at the time, but now as someone who's interested in subcultures and their history, that was a golden age. 2007 emo was great yeah, but it was a logical movement from the beginnings in the 80s, through "pop punk culture" up until that point. It got really crazy in ways that couldn't be predictedin the end, and that's why I think that stuff is worth something.

>>
>>10630295
They straight hair proto-scene kid style started in the UK and is still going strong in South and Central America.
>>
>>10630294
I disagree. The 00s was an AWFUL transition phase. During the 00s, the 90s were still ok i guess.

Nowadays the 90s have that sort of coolness to them, and the 00s are still shit.

The 00s were all about flip phones and pseudo tech shit.
>>
>>10630296

Isn't it interesting how pervasive emo was at a time? For a while, even celebrities started to don hairstyles that involved straightened hair with layers and bangs, every single rock music video from the era involved dark makeup, etc. I remember that even the traditionally "preppy" girls in my school took influence from it and wore skulls and dark eyeliner. There really hasn't been another pervasive subculture yet (especially because "hipster" is just a fake image created by the media and nobody ever self-identified by it)
>>
>>10630304

Ah yeah, I forgot about the UK. It was definitely popular there.
>>
It's been coming back for a while now. Old emo bands are reforming and touring again.
I was never super into emo when it was popular, but I know most of the big hits. We still rock out to stupid emo and pop punk shit at work sometimes.
>>
>>10630307

I've been on the internet in a long time, and people felt the same way you do about the 90s during the early to mid 2000s. Although we now think of it as a really cool, easily identifiable era, people at the time dismissed it as nothing special.

I do agree that the early 2000s were terrible, but many things about the 90s are terrible: we just don't remember those things because your view of the 90s, and even the view of those who grew up in the 90s, is romanticized by 90s revival stuff which only focuses on the cool things.

When a 00s revival happen, it'll focus more on PS2, emo, shows and movies of the time, etc rather than the spiked hair and frosted tips
>>
>>10630310
It was pervasive because it spoke to all young people. Every teenager is at least a little fucked up and angsty. Growing up is hard and emo music was all about that.
>>
>>10630320
>It was pervasive because it spoke to all young people.

Yep, and then the celebrities and whatnot began to utilize elements of the "emo" image, sometimes unknowingly, the earn money and relate more to teenagers, which is always the toughest demographic to target in any medium.
>>
>>10630310
Yeah, definitely. And it still pops up a lot, especially in mainstream culture. Its weird. I wouldn't say its the only subculture that did that though, Hippie style functioned in a really similar way.

It's funny how much I thought the '90's were shit when I was living in them, but I've grown to appreciate the decade so much more. I was too young in the '90's to really appreciate a lot of the real rock bands making music and the designers making waves with a new kind of cool. All I grew up with was the shitty boy bands and pop tarts.

The point being, though I consider the '00's to have been a shitty decade culturally, I might grow to appreciate its hidden gems in a few years. We're due for a '00's revival next.

IDK man, there's something about the 00s that just doesn't cut it, that's why I think they're awful and not as memorable as the 90s or previous eras. (I consider the 00s 2000-2007ish).

Technology is advancing so fast... the PS2 and TV "revival" you mention is already happening with all these consoles having backwards compatibility/eshops with old games available. Like there's no need for a revival when we already have everything at hand. 00s TV shows are all streamable online. Early 00s fashion is so awful I don't think it'll ever come back except by celebrities with "daring" 00s throwback outfits on some red carpet.

I understand what you're saying though, it's just that I don't see the 00s as iconic as the 80/90s, only as a weird transitional phase.
>>
>>10630365
No I agree. I think this period is probably the most cringeworthy in all of history. I wouldn't be surpirsed if SLP tried their hand at making that era of Emo/Screamo/Post-Hardcore palatable on the runway, though.

you guys should both realize that the 90s were once discussed the exact same way.. as being devoid of fashion/culture

but one day it will come back. it already is. early 2000s stuff is already on the comeback since it gets blended with late 90s without people even realize it. And then stuff like vapor wave is very early 2000s aesthetic

Everything comes back around eventually

Every time I go there I still see kids with piercings all over their faces listening to Blessthefall and Norma Jean

Listen to how fucking negative these lyrics are...

I could never put my fucking finger on it, but now I know why I LOVED this time period more than any other in my life. It WASN'T, because I WAS YOUNG.

It was all simply for ONE REASON.

PESSIMISM WAS ACCEPTED, AND BECAME MAINSTREAM. YOU COULD POINT OUT ALL THE NEGATIVE SHIT ABOUT LIFE, WITHOUT EVERYONE JUDGING YOU, OR FORCING PC CULTURE DOWN YOUR THROAT.

EMO QUINTESSENTIALLY captured the ability to freely speak your thoughts, and embrace everything about life including death.

No fedora tipping, just being honest.

EVEN cinematic movies were allowed to capture the worst parts of life, and that is what people embraced the most.

As a person who use to dress emo in highschool and middle school I still have a similar look. I still wear very slim jeans however I try to ad more simple elegant and modern wardrobe to the mix. however the slim jeans are a must. my hair is much shorter as well medium length with a nose piercing.

>>
you guys are embarassing
>>
>>10631922
you're completely retarded, know nothing of what you speak, and are probably too young to have participated in the real scene. MCR was regarded, at the time, as the past-peak. Here are some mainstream examples to back me up though. The Used's album that got them big was released in 2002. Brand New's album that got them big was released in 2003, but had popular singles out in 2001. Taking Back Sunday? 2002. As for the screamy shit that created "Scene"? The Bled, 2003 they broke out. Curl Up And Die was 2001. Blood Brothers 2003. Glassjaw 2003.

Clearly you were a laggard then, you're probably behind on culture fashion and music now too, sorry for being flyover.
>>
>>10631922
and for scene appearing/peaking years, there were scene kids here around 2004. By 2008 most of them except for the 16 and under crowd that were little poser faggots had already long moved on to either good old fashioned hXc kids in some cases or indie kids in many more.

lesson of this? the "pinnacle" of emo was a good 4 years before you think it was, you were probably like 8 at the time, nostalgia has misinformed you faggot
>>
>>10633588
thank fucking christ someone else knows what's up. the shit people are associating with 2008 I saw 5 years earlier. Hipsters were already a thing by 2008. But how comically behind and slow /fa/ was on this explains a ton about alot of the posts & fits on this board

You youngsters don't even know about emo.
>>
>>10636614
this is old school American Football, Sunny Day Real Estate, kind of emo.
>>
>>10636621
Yeah. The good kind. Before teenagers started wearing black and pink eyeliner and were obsessed with Nightmare Before Christmas.
>>
>>10636621
yeah this emo was the derivative of post hardcore like fugazi
the '06 myspace emo was a derivative of this
>>
>>10636628

I enjoy both kinds of emo though. I'm too young to have been a part of the height of old school emo but old enough to appreciate it now.

Better to live for love and improve the world.
>>
No, hell-fucking-no

It was an era filled with awful haircuts, faggy hooded sweatshirts, even faggier graphic tees, and jeans that were way to tight.

It was an embarrassing era, where the dudes looked like bitches, and the bitches didn't look that much better.

what? scene wasn't around until mid 2008
>>
>>10634125

we're talking about the fashion, not the music (which isn't even real emo). nobody dressed "scene' until 2008

look at the music videos from those early 2000s bands, nobody dressed in the skinny jeans/skate shoes/studded belts with long dyed straightened bangs yet
>>
>>10634131

you just don't know the difference between emo and scene fashion
>>
>>10634137

The peak of the 00s for me was between 04-07. Before 04 was a really cringey mix of hot topic mallgoth emo and after 07 brokencyde ruined it. If you were scene you were a snob that would go to shows every week and hardcore dancing was cool. Fashion was gauged ears/snake bites, girl jeans, band tees/hoodies that you bought from the merch table. Norma Jean started it all in '02 but the popular bands were Dillinger Escape Plan, Animosity, Remembering Never, Acacia Strain, BTBAM, and ETID.

I still remember hearing about Geoff Rickley breaking his nose at Warped and continuing to play
>>
>>10636614
This is the type of music going through a revival right now at least, the fashion of it wasnt altogether great but modern interpretatioms of it arent bad, think big sweaters and tight jeans, comfy-core stuff. I feel like this kind of fits, nb

Leto's been jocking every popular style at it's peak since forever ago. even in his music. Everything about him is malleable. No actual personality

Impressed with the bassist's choice of the doing his top button that long ago and making it work really well, though

Oh shit no Your Scene Sucks pics yet?

Most kids who are serious about Metal / Hardcore wouldn’t be where they are without the works of bands such Black Flag, Bad Brains and Black Sabbath. Nowadays, the frontrunners of metalcore wouldn’t be where they are if Switchfoot, Five Iron Frenzy and DC Talk weren’t played at past bible camp retreats.

In recent years religion has made its presence felt in the metalcore scene moreso than ever before. In order to avoid this trend make sure to keep a tally while listening to current bands. If you hear the word “he” more than “she” then you are either a) listening to bear force one or b) you might be being taken advantage of by Jesus mind tricks. If you find yourself armed with a hair straightener and a wardrobe of v-neck shirts you must immediately listen to NOFX records for the next few hours to cleanse yourself from this form of audio hypnosis.

Hardcore wouldn’t be what it is without some sense of passion, but passion about some fictional zombie?

I was never emo but spent the early 2000s as a mosher kid in north east England. These chunky fucking trainers with the massive baggy jeans that got all shredded round the bottoms and dragged behind you. Fucking nightmare when it rained.
