Personally, I´m a big fan of back patches so I say go for it.
I´d start with finding out what you want thematically and not with the color scheme. There´s lots of different options in term of color but lots (and I mean almost all of them) of patches look tacky to me. Don´t go for something "ironic" or "nerdy" or whatever. You´ll end up looking like an idiot.
Colors that work with this: black, dark brown, burgundy probably
i've ordered a print of this image i made out of 2 old paintings i found online, 10 inches by 10 inches on a piece of canvas, i'm going to sew it onto the back of my fishtail parka, as well as various patches from ebay

Well the front is a little busy and a more understated parka would look better. I just assumed this is your only option. I´d say a patch should work anyway (depends on what patch ofc)

A backpatch would work since it's an obvious milsurp jacket. That said, a typical "black cotton square with some graphic" would look bad imo. I'd go for an embroidered backpatch, something like pic related but not necessarily a tiger.

Nice. The parka even looks good on it's own. Keep it clean and leave the patches for something else. The United Nations one would look sick on the arm of a white bomber or something, depending on how big it is

i've also made some changes to the parka, cut drawstrings off and i'm going to remove some of the buttons and the inside lining which can be unbuttoned, when it's in it makes the coat a bit too bulky rather than a drapey piece of material

Patches are a good conversation starter.
I usually put patches on tshirts or jackets to cover brand name (especially when it's an abercrombie tshirt).
But I limit myself to 1 patch per piece of clothing
