The department stores, offer not that much menswear and next to no sales at all.

Tokyo is an absolute goldmine of incredible stores with both unique little boutiques and worldclass high fashion. have a walk though chome 4, 5, and 6 in Jingumae near Harajuku station, that's where you'll find the best of Harajuku and pretty much tokyo. try fake tokyo in shibuya and also definitely checkout MYOB in laforet in harajuku, run by a bunch of sick girls i worked for them recently

Honestly, the point of these isn't so much to look /fa/ as to show your shared interest. You will see many people in costumes - some good, some cringey. You will also see many people with simple T-shirts of their favorite anime, who aren't trying to be fashionable at all.
I don't know - what do you want to do? What's your usual style? Wearing an anime T-shirt isn't really /fa/ at all, but at least it shows your common interest, which might be something to go for at these conventions.
