A few minutes later, he offered to let me test drive a new M4 and waived the credit application they usually require.

I remember her remarking to us something like, "We get a lot of people who can't afford things coming in here, so we just have to use precaution with who we show these goods to today. We don't want to waste our time or theirs."

I was wearing a tattered pair of jeans, Clarks Wallabies, and a stained OBDC shirt when somebody said that to me.
I literally looked like shit, and probably smelled the part too, when somebody asked if I was "dressing up". I stumbled back home from a party the night before.
This guy was a roommate of mine, randomly chosen by the management. He wasn't exactly a NEET, but if he wasn't employed by the local Wal-Mart he would've been. The guy was a mess--fat, slovenly, and smelly--and he thought my unkempt state was "classy".
