How do I fix this?

You buy new pads

Sew new ones out of a plushy velvet material instead of vinyl leather.

15 dollars on the manufacturers website

If available. I rescued a nice vintage Pioneer Monitor 10 headphones by getting some lambskin and stitching my own pads.

stitch your own out of cloth/velvet/something soft.

I've passed up on 3 pairs of Pioneer headphones for this very reason. Apparently all the headphones they made during that era had pads that just started to go to shit after about 15 years whether you use them or not.

Use the sock

In a similar vein, I just washed my earpads. I used a powdered soap meant for lace and lingerie so it wouldn't damage the pleather or elastic. After, I hand dried them with paper towel by squeezing them and wiping away all the water that were on the seams. They smell new :). Would recommended for anyone when gross earpads.
