Can /diy/ tell me what this tool is for specifically?

Hint 1: It's made by a company named "Egerton"
Hint 2: It's likely 20+ years old.
Hint 3: It's likely used in carrier telecommunications.

I really have no idea, and would like to know. I reckon it's some sort of old school crimper or punch.

Probably a cable terminator, ones we use now are more like a big staple gun looking thing though

what sort of cable are we talking? I was thinking it is some sort of coax compression fitting thing..

Coax is still used to some extent, mostly there's more modern variations of it depending on the application- feeder types which uses a full copper sheath to carry signals up to the antennas and waveguides which channel microwave.

That tools well before my time though so at the moment I'm just guessing its a cable terminator for some type of connector which isn't very common anymore.

it looks like a chain splitter to me. a tool used to remove the pin from roller chain. think bicycle chain / motorcycle chain.

I've terminated a lot of cable, coax, fiber and heliax but I've never seen anything like that used for telecommunications

>Ive worked in a bicycle store for 4 weeks and had to mount dismount some chains

I reckon you boys are right, the more i look at it the more it looks like a chain breaker..

Cheers diy!
