UNCOMMON BUT USEFUL EDC

mine is only the most useful discovery, must carry at least one stick of a strike-anywhere-match-stick.
Never know when you'll need a fire!
>>
>>979434
What, do you live in the woods or something?
>>
>>979437
I do frequent it everyday on my way to and fro, my bungalow is next to the largest nature reserve here... so you see senpai, anons are not the same, therefore care to contribute??

I geuss a knife is pretty common, but I find I use this for much more than cutting.

I carry around a Wiha bit set and a ratcheting screwdriver from Wera.

I can screw three times faster than anyone else, no lewd intended.

But in any case, the bit set is highly flexible for electronics use.

Gerber multi tool. I acquired about ten when I was in the army from an open box.

Why would you carry matches when you could carry a lighter, or a flint and striker

I would assume for use in bathrooms

To cover the smell of shit.

but >>979686 is right, a lighter is easily a better option, "But what if it runs out!" a lighter lasts for ages, especially if you're not using it a lot (As a smoker one of those bic lighters lasts me at least a month and I use it 10-20 times a day) and you can easily work out when its running low (the flame grows shorter and it becomes harder to spark a flame) if you're still not convinced that a lighter is better than matches (maybe you're constantly soaked or live in a water world) then a flint and steel is better than matches too.

As for another uncommon but useful (for me, may not be for others) EDC, I always have a measuring tape on me, if I'm out I have a small shitty one on my keychain (picture related though not the same one) or if I have my bag of other junk I have a much better larger 8m one, I use it pretty much every day when I'm doing building design, helps me visualise dimensions easier and I can easily tell if things will fit where they are meant to (eg If I have a desk this deep and a chair this big how much room do I need to leave to let them get in and out easier) and the need for it just comes up from time to time for other reasons, I'm a little autistic for numbers, like things to be exact and don't like just guessing.

a not so uncommon thing that's always good to have is a small torch/flashlight, something that can fit in your pocket, no bigger than your thumb, doesn't need to be super powerful, just enough to see into dark corners or cabinets and such.
>>
>>979528
>I acquired about ten when I was in the army from an open box.
is walking around the barraks like playing skyrim?
>>
>>979710
>small measuring tape

Oh god yes.

I frequent the surplus racks of my local metal and plastic suppliers. I relatively recently found an old 3-foot measuring tape meant to go on a key chain. Even though I can eyeball most stock pretty accurately, the thing's invaluable for when I have something specific in mind.

Never mind all the other odd times it comes in handy, which, as a security/maintenance guy, is pretty often.

The two most uncommon things I EDC are:
1.
AC non-contact voltage detector, even though I no longer work maintenance, and work as a kennel attendant now, it has saved the lives of 6 autists who don't understand basic electrical fucking safety.
>I thought I turned X off
>X can't be faulty because It didn't shock me, even though I'm on a fiberglass ladder and not referenced to ground

2.
Insulin syringe; in the event my normal delivery method fails, so I don't die. Not dying is pretty useful to me.
>>
>>980923
Right after posting I also remembered I carry a 6" precision engineer's scale that is both metric and standard.

Useful as fuck for quick technical sketches and precise measurements.
You'd be surprised how often knowing something down to the nearest 64th or .5mm comes in handy in day to day life.

>Sgt face display UtterContempt.jpg
>Sgt draws Bowie, stabs can twice.
I hadn't even unfolded Gerber yet.
Never packed Gerber again.
>>
>>981396
Because a multi tool is only useful for opening juice?
>>
>>981429
No, because "Gerbers are shit and anyone who uses them is a faggot" is a meme on this board. I mean compared to the 80's-90's gerbers their quality is meh, but not as bad as people make them out to be.

Meming faggots.

When you have to limit the amount of kit your humping only the most versatile and robust will do. Pliers are neat, but Sgt Anon could have just as easily put two large holes in my chest with that bowie.
>a good sharp edge is a man's best hedge against the vague uncertainty of life
>>
>>981439
>>981455
I don't use any multitools because they're all shit compared to the proper tool for the job. Even CRKT and Kershaw. I almost always have the proper tool on hand anyways.

Anon is still a meming faggot, and so is Sgt. faggot for doing that to his blade when I guarantee he had a tool nearby that would have done just as well.

Either way, a knife or a multi tool aren't "uncommon" as an edc item, probably one of the most common items.

once a year?

Many more if you're a machinist or engineer.

A bag, to collect birch bark. I use it twice a week to set up a fire in the woods to grill some dogs for my kids and shit.
Why a textile bag you might ask? Well, a plastic bag looks dirty and out of place in the forest, as if I would be littering or something? And if you saw a dude with a plastic mall bag intensely gazing at trees you would wonder what the heck he was up to.

>I don't use any multitools because they're all shit compared to the proper tool for the job
What are you, some sort of poof? I installed my Lister SR2 marine engine with a Leatherman multitool. Any man worth his salt can accomplish almost anything with a multitool. It's handier to have a full workshop at your disposal, of course, but as a thing to keep on you a multitool is a fucking godsend.

>tfw I've kept a .73mm plec in that tiny useless pocket inside the right pocket of my Levis for the past 12 years
Perfect thickness. Soft enough for loose strumming, but if you grip it a little further down there's enough balls in it for fast picking on an electric. Any guitarist who doesn't have his own plec on him 24/7 is either no guitarist at all or it some serious Mark Knoffler motherfucker when it comes to picking.

Although saying that, if it's some other cunt's guitar then fuck the strings, use a penny.

Just carry a Bic lighter you fucking autist. Even better, a windproof butane one.

It's useful cause it can make fire, but also to make smoker friends happy with you.
>>

I carry a flash drive that uses YUMI multiboot to have a few live bootable operating systems on it. It has GPartEd, Clonezilla, a live version of Manjaro, and Hiren's Boot CD. I can unlock anyone's Windows computers, it's pretty useful

Relevant question: What's the best off brand Leatherman?

I'm extremely broke. I'm using the $5 Walmart version now, and it would be okay, but the saw sucks and the tools like to close while you're using them.

My budget's about $20, what's the best tool I can get for that? I need pliers, screwdrivers, bottle opener, file, saw, awl. A ruler would be nice, hacksaw would be fucking godlike.

but arc lighers are the shit. I've got one that takes an 18650 and I charge it maybe 5 times a year. windproof, lights tobacco at much lower temp than butane or zippos, lights tinder instantly, etc. when the battery wears down I can just hit up one of my friends that vape for a free replacement
