I am planning to build a podium like pic related and wanted to use a frame and lighter wood because money. The podium bill pretty much be exactly this in different wood and with frame below. What wood should I use?

tulipwood/poplar if you want it cheap and light.
ash costing a bit more
maple costs more or same as ash depending on location
there the three lighter coloured woods id choose.
and then just buy a veneered panel in the matching wood, groove the frame and fit .
