I sill do my plans on a drafting table. No patience to learn how to use Cad.

what is with that "d" at the start?

does not compute

AutoCAD is one of the easier programs to learn, just watch some youtube tutorials, you can get deep into it but for just starting out it's as easy as clicking to draw lines.

I use a program named DeltaCAD for my stuff. It is *very* easy to use mainly because it's 2D only--it has no 3D features at all. And it is mostly mouse-controlled.
There's a trial on the website. Cheap but it is still a pretty crude program, it hasn't changed much from the Win95 era when the first version came out.

I find that CAD programs with 3D capability aren't worth the hassle to learn to use unless you have CNC equipment that can make the 3D files generated. And I don't.

At the upper end, some of the big-name 3D programs have neat features have stuff like part inteference checking and constraint-based drawing. Legit versions cost too much tho and the cracked versions all have trojenz/viren in them, and I aint got time for that silliness anymore.

(yes, all of them are infected. if you want a clean-but-cracked piece of software, you basically gotta crack it *yourself*, with tools you wrote yourself. the people who crack software make their money selling botnets--and guess where the botnets come from?).

Maybe I ll try deltacad out then. Thanks.

Argh

No one is forcing you to learn the 3D element of CAD programs. You can just use the 2D tools in AutoCAD, I am studying building design and I haven't touched 3D in AutoCAD, and all the 2D stuff is easy to learn.

He started writing 'drafting thread' but realized he sucked at it, then later regained the courage to try again and failed miserably. Don't feel bad OP, we've all been there.

If you're serious about this, go look up some instruction. It's very similar to being back in first grade when you learn to write cursive... Exact steps.

Seriously you old farts, 3D is the whole point of CAD now and so god damned easy to learn once you get away from the backwards ass retardation that is autodesk products.

Try solidworks and tell me it's difficult to learn. You can even design by starting out with a piece of stock and pretending you are doing machining operations.
