How do I make a patio like this IRL? How do I make a patch of stones like that on the ground? Do I just lay stones down.
>>

You could try google first, those are all very simple things, there should be a hell of a lot of resources online that would be a quick search away.

possible HEAP alternative might be canvas painter's drop cloth. I bought a couple the other day ~$18 for 15ft. X 12ft.
basically was a light to maybe medium weight canvas.
I don't know how long it will last outdoors in the weather though. would suspect it would deteriorate after a while.
awning fabric would be treated or coated for outdoor use and would last a lot longer but I'm sure its a lot more expensive as well.

What everyone else has said

But I was thinking camping/moving tarp, as I see then\m at low prices and they are reasonably durable, but can be loud at times.

Even if it does deteriorate quickly it will bleach faster than the material degrades so you get that West Indian beach shack look in quick time.

That's if you want to feel like a salty dog.

Don't do it. It'll flap like crazy is the gentlest of breezes and unless pulled taut will self destruct in short order. Especially the blue ones. Did I mention it'll fray and you'll have millions of blue fibers all over your yard.

>millions of blue fibers

yup, quite a lot this - chasing after bits of UV fuxored fraying tarp is not a fun-for-everyone garden game. It must actually be possible to make a UV resitstant version of this shit, but I`ve certainly never seen one. This good idea not.

It sound more fun then chasing down asbestos fibers, those F***ers are nanoscopic and transparent to visible light.

Bottom line, don't ever use an asbestos fabric.

Well I had my doubts after the whole mesothelioma thing but cleaning it ouf my garden just pushed it over the edge.

Dunno where you are but I'm in Australia and sunshade cloth is cheap and easy to use. Not waterproof but good for most other things.

If you want waterproof, you have to buy weatherpoof Polyester fabric as used in boat covers. One of the popular brand names is Sunbrella.

Try looking for Agricultural Hopper roll over tarp scraps. Sturdy as heck, definitely UV resistant, and I have seen many different colors. They do tend to look more artificial (plastic/rubbery) than canvas, but I only have experience with new ones. Older ones or scrap from a replaced one may have a nice weathered look.
