Anybody know how to make a relatively simple amplifier?
I don't need anything fancy, but as long as it has a preamp and potentiometer I'm relatively happy. Trying to make little portable set of speakers.
Post those schematics up!

A 2N3904 is a single transistor, and isn't useful as an amplifier by itself. Most amps use a lot of transistors. It's not a simple subject. This is a website I have been gleaning information from about amplifiers for over a year now.

Musicpcb.com has a board called the tiny big amp I believe. It runs of a laptop power supply, but I suppose you could make a battery pack for it if you want portable. Hell, find an old scrappy laptop with a broken screen or something and steal the battery, charger, and charge controller for it.
Here's a nice little amp that uses a FET buffer and a LM386.

for super high end audio equipment, building it yourself is usually a great deal cheaper than blowing $1k on an amp. The most expensive individual components are power transistors and heatsinks. Resistors are less than pennies a piece in bulk.

OP just go get a practice amp or one that you plug headphones into they're not expensive you'll spend less money that way than fooling around building a piece of crap amp from scratch.

Possibly. Time wise? Probably not. If you were experienced and had a working shop tailored to it then maybe, but a first timer doing this out of a bedroom would devote a tone of time to it, especially with a steep learning curve.
