I am trying to learn how a radio works.
I want to cut off that component on the top left. Does anybody know what it is and whether that will influence radio reception? I desoldered the plug as I am solely working with batteries for my project.
Help would be appreciated.

One more thing. The plug was originally soldered to this same component. I desoldered it from it. I wonder whether this is some kind of transformer? Since I desoldered the plug maybe I don't actually need it anymore.

That's what powers the rest of the radio. You cut it off and it won't work anymore.
If this isn't bait, then you need to slow down and learn some basic electronics first, you have no idea what you're doing. Start at the beginning, not in the middle.

This isn't bait. I am merely trying to get rid of needless components for my project. I intend to keep literally everything else. I just want to identify whether this is something that I will need.
The reason why I desoldered the wire is because I plan on using the radio only on a 9V battery input. I plan on putting my fingers on the soldering side of the board while the radio is on. I don't want to be electrocuted.

OP.
1)Cut off the component.
2)Strip the wires and attach two of the wires to a nine volt battery.
3)Touch the unattached wires with your hands, tongue, balls etc. . .
4)Hear radio broadcasts. You are now the radio!

The radio has a 9v battery too. The transformer is only used for providing power through house current.

I'm assuming this was a 90s clock radio with battery backup, and that the radio works OK off just the battery backup. (The display might or might not work, but whatever.) It also looks like you already got rid of the AC cord.
If that's the case, the transformer was part of the AC power supply circuit and is not doing anything, so sure get rid of it.
You won't learn much about how a radio works from taking this apart though because it looks like all the tuning and demodulating functions are done in a single IC. Get a transistor radio from the early 70s and probably an ocilloscope if you want to trace through how the circuit actually works. (Everything newer than the late 70s at least uses an IC to do FM stereo decoding because that was expensive to do with discrete transistors.)

YES. I am trying to get my hands on one of those. Apparently does these days are actually too complicated to hack. They've got tiny fucking circuit boards with tiny fucking parts. Jesus.
