So I pulled this broken switch off of something, and I'm gonna replace it. however, I'm not certain if it's a pushbutton or a pot. Can anyone tell?

pot.
Tho you're gonna have to use a om meter to tell the value

it's got 4 connections, so my guess is that it's a pushbutton, similar to this, except the push-in part is recessed. if you press in the center, you might feel a click.

Never came across a pot with 4 pins tho
>>

very curious op
perhaps you could show us where it came from for a little context might help.

Pic related. It's a pushbutton. I don't understand how anyone could think this is a potentiometer..

because it has a centre contact for a wiper and a crescent contact resembling how the resistive element in a certain variety of trimpot might look.

sure you can say well it has 4 pins what does a pot need 4 pins for well what does a switch need 4 pins for?

its not that mad.

>>927553
dont feel bad anon
except for saying to find the value when clearly the wiper is missing.

> potentiometers only have 180* of rotation, not 300*
> carbonised wipers are silver, not black.

Ok.
>>
>>927671
it could be a really really really really low value?
>>
>>927651
Looks the same, thx boss

>Also I thought it was a pot at first too, no need to be meeean.
>>
>>927677
Well.. where did it come from? Did it have a knob or access hole above it or was it part of a control panel with buttons? I fail to see how you could not determine what it was simply by the context of the circuit or the components location. If it's behind a panel mounted button, it's hardly a pot now, is it? Even the board itself will tell you, it will have a "SW" (switch) component designator like >>927651 has, or a "VR" (variable resistor).

Shit, you opened your OP with "So I pulled this broken switch off of something". What made you think it was a switch in the first place?

If you come asking questions like this with no context and contradictory information, expect what you have just seen happen, to happen. Good luck fixing whatever the fuck it is you have there.
