You guys know how its bad for lithium batterys to stay at 100%.

Most people leave they're laptops plugged in or its a hassle to keep plugging it in and out, also just taking the battery out can be bad in case of a power outtage you loose the date.

Why isn't there a thing to detect current draw and cut power when it reaches a certain draw ?
(li ion current draw tapers off near full charge, so it's likely to be able to detect battery %/capacity this way and cut it at 80% or so lets say)

Does noone need this or don't they even know they need it ?

It's fine for lithium batteries to stay at 100%. The only thing that effects lithium is the actual number of charge cycles. Good batteries track this and will report this. Your battery capacity almost certainty isn't going down outside of the expected further. I just replaced my Lenovo at 1800 cycles. It had gone from 7 hours to 7 minutes.

Your laptop also does what you're saying already unless its a shit tier white label china shit. It's called battery tending.

If your laptop loses the date without you're battery then you need to get the cmos battery replaced. It's a button lithium cell just like in a real computer

i guess ur in the second category of not actually knowing you need one http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_store_batteries

sorry i ment "data" instead of date, i have a pretty good example of battery fuckery from a surface pro, which doesn't seem shit at all, as long as its woken up it will leave it at 80% somethimes, and if u put it to sleep it charges to 100% and will keep it there indefinetly while plugged

I'm considerably less worried about leaving my laptop plugged in constantly, and more about all the porn I look at giving me weird viruses....

No... I actually use my laptop. I cant leave it at 40% charge to get 8% additional theoretical life out of the battery because I need 100% charge when I start the day. The 40% storage recommendation is for _storage_ like for months or shipping. Like when a manufacturer ships you a device it will be around 40%.

If your surface is having a problem, its probably a firmware issue, they has a lot of growing pains. Call Microsoft and make sure everything is up. Otherwise you might have a power supply issue. If charging the battery and running the screen and the CPU, my 45w psu cant actually handle it and it will take 12+ hours to charge in that state.

If problem persists it might be a faulty psu. If its an original surface your battery is just done. Go find the advanced battery info and check the charge cycle counter. If its over 1500 its definitely time to replace. They are consumable items. They don't last forever no matter how nicely you treat them

yes i see this wouldn't be needed by someone that needs it 100% in the morning, i do too, but whenever i see ppl i know use theyre laptops, its plugged in for long period of times not actually carrying it anywhere.

Likely the battery will be somewhere above 25c too because of the heat from the cpu/gpu, ofc this will differe between models. It's easy to see how someone useing it plugged in will wreck it within a year.

HOly shit.

I found one of these in a pile of old junk an electronics fag was giving away.

show us which retard besides you states that.
>>
>>907490
That's actually not as common as it used to be. Unless you're going to some seriously sketchy sites.
Between the rise of decent free antivirus software, and porn sites becoming more reputable, viruses are a lot rarer than they used to be.

Lithium batteries shouldn't be kept at 100% while plugged in for long periods. I've had my laptop for almost 2 yrs and most of that time plugged in. It has an "energy manager" program that keeps it at ~ 60 % charge. And so far the battery lasts the same amount of time as when new.

I have a thing that plugs into an outlet and prevents power surges so it won't fry your laptop.
>>
>>908358
Well, shit, that no-control-group anecdote's sorted it all out.

>Why isn't there a thing to detect current draw and cut power when it reaches a certain draw ?
There is, it's called the "laptop". "

100%" isn't 100%.
>>
>>907480
How do you check the number of cycles?
>>
>>908460
It's buried in some advanced power menu. The quicker way to see it is
Start run cmd.exe
Powercfg /batteryreport

Your laptop manufacturer.

There's no secret voodoo that will make a battery last forever. Almost nothing effects it besides temperature abuse and cycle count.

If you tend it perfectly at 40% (which your battery pack wont report to you accurately) you can get 8-10% more life out of it... But then if you ever pick your laptop up its only 40 fucking percent and isn't that dumb as shit?

Nice one thanks

you've got the stats for capacity loss here http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_store_batteries from the likes of cadex which is pretty respectable name.

that battery is probably going to be at 30* while ur working on the laptop, especially if u game on it while plugged in. In 1 or 2 years depending on how fast u change the laptop you're going to reach that 60% capacity, perhaps even lower

if you've got the money to switch the laptops all the time sure dont give a fuck about the battery
>>
>>909067
If what you're working on is worth less than a battery, then by all means run your computer without its onboard UPS.
>>
>>909083
wow u deff sound like u know what ur talking aboot

I used to take my laptop battery out when plugged in. I quickly learned that it's a disaster waiting to happen. Laptops are notoriously easy to unplug.
