I made this table as a gift and I didnt get a chance to take a good picture of it with a decent background before i gave it away.If someone could do me the kindness of removing the garbage bags, electrical outlet, floor vent and overall ghetto-ness of this picture I would be so thankful. If you like do some stupid shit as well,It is still appreciated
and uhh it is All solid Red oak joined by mortise and tenon, with legs turned on a CNC lathe.Finished with chestnut stain, wipe on polyurethane and beeswax

The main issue with slang is that it emerges over time.
You can't really control it once it has taken off, even though there's a better or more logical option.
>>779347
The reason slang sticks is because it's shorter, more memorable and less ambiguous for those using it than the proposed alternatives.

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Table, is in fact, GNU/Table, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Table. Table is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Table, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Table, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Table is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Table is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Table added, or GNU/Table. All the so-called Table distributions are really distributions of GNU/Table!

I always wanted to try woodworking as a hobby but live in a small apartment.
What would you suggest is a good starter project for a small space such as an apartment? I was thinking birdhouse but I hate pigeons.
>>783102
>I was thinking birdhouse but I hate pigeons.
Wat? Who says you have to keep them, much less put pigeons in them? Make small bird houses and sell them to breeders. Make them waterproof, cut bigger holes into the walls on all sides, slap a tray on the bottom, sell hanging bird feeders. Make them of high enough quality and see if your local pet/avian store will stock them for you. Place cards with them inviting people to call you for a quote on other accessories like stands for larger cages and forage trays. Goes alright for me.

A birdhouse is a great project to get you started with woodworking.Attached picture: I made one with a hole small enough that only smaller more beautiful birds can fit inside, the owner mostly gets Canaries and sometimes Sparrows. To make a birdhouse at the very least you would need a measuring tape,a pencil,a hand powered mitre box,and a hammer and nails. There are a few ways you can go about really getting into it: Best case scenario take a night school course from a local college,or see if any community centres or highschools near you run a club. The clubs would give you access to a nice variety of power tools, and there would be somebody to teach you enough to get you going. If you want to go it alone there are books and videos you can refer to,check out Paul sellers,Norm Abrams,Roy Underhill, and The wood whisperer on youtube.Being in an apartment you could grab an electric compound mitre saw and a cordless drill and driver, and just with those you can make some nice projects.Just buy your lumber in dimensional form ( 2 by 4", 1x3,4x4,2x12 etc) from the hardware store, cut it to length with the mitre saw,and screw it together with the drills and you can make some decent furniture.( check out http://ana-white.com/plancatalog ) Whatever you end up doing some good tools to pick up in order of importance:
1: a sturdy measuring tape ( dewalt,stanley,rigid)
2: a good 12 inch combination square ( anything smaller is useless, anything larger is too unwieldy and unnecessary,it should be entirely metal with no plastic parts)
3: a screwdriver with multiple interchangeable bits and storage for said bits on the screwdriver itself)
4: a hand powered mitre saw with mitre box ( stanley)
5: a metal claw hammer with a comfortable handle (can be thrown like a tomahawk for shits and giggles)
6:a cordless drill and driver,a jig saw, a circular saw, mitre saw (dewalt or ryobi for all of the above)
And most importantly, when you have 500$ set aside buy yourself a dewalt tablesaw
If money is not an issue go straight for the drills, tablesaw, and mitre saw.The table saw is the most useful and versatile tool to a woodworker and will let you make beautiful woodwork.Get some clamps, and any sturdy table with a vice will serve you well.Godspeed friend, Godspeed

check out ikea catalogues for inspiration, but try and be O.G and create your own work
>>783861
>>783861
dang guys, this thread is golder than concentrated gold.
also, started woodworking (inspired by mathias wandel after getting high and watchinghis videos) recently. Got meself some handtools (i like those better, I like the workout/long time it takes. Time to clear your head) and made some minor stuff from plyswood and the likes. When I get a jackplane I will finally be able to make some more advanced stuff, for then I will be able to cut (small) boards from rough milled lumber. I also need a panelsaw. And a fine saw. And some chisels. And a strop and polishing compound. And a brace. and drills for those too. I I will need to make a mallet. and a routerplane would be nice...
GODDAMNIT!
oh money where art thou!

I have had a terrible day and this thread makes it all OK.
Thank you.
>>786044
I think some of the early Bunkerbro threads might have at least come close, and possibly some of the Imitation Crab threads, but I don't recall any thread over 250 replies.
>>786183
>but I don't recall any thread over 250 replies
- like 3dpg (3d printer general) above, you mean.. nope, nevarr happens.
Meanwhile, back in non-alternate reality, generals hit bump limit all the time, 3d thread mentioned hit it in about a week max.
Single project thread, dunno - last one was prob. scrotum warmer, which def hit limit, but may not have been last to..
This thread may actually hit image post limit first - dont remember that, maybe, a /diy/ debut. Unless y'all posting continual nonsense over post counts, instead of righteous stool photos, that is.
tl;dr - it happens, indeed.
