So I've made a forging setup with a big 14 pounds maul, a 10ft rod and a spring to garner some of the energy otherwise lost and I'm ready to blacksmih somethings..

Anyone into this?
Tips, literature and info pics are welcome!

Yeah that's what I was thinking.. making something small first, it will be easier to get a good surface finish on something small

Made it just for the laughs.. but past the trollness of it you can see my setup quite well..

This is as hot as I could get my rod.. I think it's still a little beet cold tho... I'll try to add some butane to the air intake of the oven see if it helps, I'll be posting some updates as I work through this

wish I knew someone locally who had a decent setup for smithing/sheetworking/casting

I get so many scrap motorcycle aluminum parts.. right now I'm sitting on a 14lb head from a dirtbike. just waiting to be melted and re-cast.

Noice, I made my oven initially with the idea of casting some aluminum shit, but after casting a phallus I got bored and decided to try some blacksmithing...

why not make your own? it's not that hard and it's quite satisfying to see it working!

just a joke

damn, thank you!

I'll be sure not to cast anything in the rain or wet sand!

Here's my furnace. It's a cut up water heater that runs on charcoal and an air mattress pump and I've been able get it up to about 1300c (2400f) to cast bronze and do some light forging. I basically modified the furnace found here:
