Sup /diy, first of all, sorry for my english (not my native). I know 4chan full of creative and dumba$$ people and I think its gonna be fun to share with you what I'm doing right now. I want to share my loft bed processes. I have this idea since last year but I haven't enough time to design/construct it and make it happen. Ive been doing this with my worker (2 guys + 1 including me) since monday. I've a ton of photos to share with you, the processes and the crazy things my workers did. Let's start

The stair is the most complicated thing to build
Fyi, the materials I'm using most of them are hollow steel with variation sizes, like 20x40cm, 30x60cm, pipe steel and plywood (12mm thick)
Why didn't you just make a ladder?
Now the fun part begins, from my design to the real world. I know from the beginning, one of my design will have a misscalculation, mainly the stair. So, during the construction process, we will change what we think it must be changed. On the photo, it shows my workers prepared the hollow steel to be cut

I have one of these, keep in mind that it gets hot as fuck compared to a normal bed because of heat convection (hot air rising above cool air)

But if you make the loft so it's wall to wall, the space occupied by the stairs would be empty. The ladder wouldn't take up a lot of space at all.

I've mentioned it when I started this thread. I said "the crazy things my workers did". I just dont understand how they do it. I said, "dude..gonna buy you better eye protect and gloves". He said, "we dont need it, simply because its not comfortable.." lol. Ok then, do what you want. They even climbed 3 story building without any safety at all (sadly I didnt take a photo)...nah dude, the way they work is normal in my country. I even said, when the western see how you guys work, they will shake their head..btw I was in germany for 7 years so I know exactly right there safety comes first, but here safety comes last as you can see on the photo.

Ah...I see what you mean. I want the bed and the stairs in a box shape. I've designed many variations and possibility including the one you've mentioned :D I choose that final design, because I want the rest of my room to be my working space. On the photo, you can see he just close his eyes lol...safety dude...

During the work, we decided to put more steel to make it more stable as I will put a 12mm thick of plywood on top of it

in my experience its more natural to go from a climb to a crawl on a ladder, its weird on steps. you have to crawl because you can't stand up obviously.
get some soft carpet for the platform, a length of timber l moulding (or in your case i guess angle iron?) tidies up the edges nice.

More likely he's just closing his eyes during the welding. I work as a TIG welder and do this all the time when tacking stuff together. just blink during the tack. Granted, I do wear a transparent mask because I don't want to get burned.

OP here, I'm from southeast asia anon. Believe me or not, he is a welder for more than 20 years (he's 41 right now) and I've asked him with a lot of "why". For myself, safety comes first because I do some woodwork here (building drafting tables, cupboard etc...) I've told them that I want to buy some gears for their safety, but they won't accept it. Nah, do what you want as long as the project can be done.

That is his decision, because he works that way for more than 20 years. What else can I say to them ? Also I've a budget for their safety gears but they refused it.
When I came back to my country, I've seen many workers here is so damn brave (I don't know if its called brave or stupid). Because I used to work with safety in germany.

The beds without a box under the mattress are on wood slats for a reason, OP. Don't use plywood, use wood boards spaced out.
I should know, I built some Ikea beds with my dad some years ago for a basement, had one with slats and a few we cheaped out on and just used plywood underneath. The ones with plywood got moldy, the ones on slats is still usable.

That's pretty much how I learned to do it here. It's just easier and more comfortable during the tacking process if you ask me.
