really limited edition
I make my own bags, make the buttons on a lathe (these are osage orange), and I wove a decorative felted wool strip for it.

Top kek, make this OP.
I built a night vision headset a while ago with an integrated HUD, and right now I'm learning how to use blender so I can 3d print a helmet to mount the whole thing in.
I tried just using paper and fiberglassing it, but my prop making skills aren't too good yet.

THE /K/ IN ME MUST KNOW
>>1012665
Why not jsut mount it on something already made eg bicycle helmets?
I'm looking to make a vest with a lot of pockets. What material is good? Looking for something light and breathable
>>1012923
I need a face mask to mount the display on.
>>1012952
I already said that I'm not good enough at sculpting to make a good looking helmet.
I do however own a 3d printer.
>>1012915
I won't go into how the hud works right now since it's still in development (still gotta finalize the design and get GPS working).
But the NV goggles themselves are basically a cheap set of FPV racing goggles paired with a small car backup camera with the IR filter removed.

Gore-tex if you have the dosh

The material could be better and pic related triggers me, but otherwise it looks legit as fuck

got any patterns you wanna share?
also pic related looks like something you would see on a children's TV show in the 90's.
I think its the colors, and comically large buttons. if you make wooden buttons out of endgrain you can use a CA glue to stabilize the wood, and it becomes very strong, have a wooden button on a pair of jeans of mine that outlasted the pair of jeans built this way as described.
Bmp
Anyone got patterns they wanna share?
>>1013218
The outside is canvas because its got good cost/durability but It's lined with some nicer stuff

I thought the colors worked well and I didn't have any better place to shoot it.
Do you guys have a program you use to make sewing patterns?
Right now I've been drawing them in Google sketchup. I can export them as DXFs. However I still can't easily print them. Do you guys know of a program that can print out large files in tiles (over many smaller sheets) and automatically mark which sheet goes where?

As usual, Matthias Wandel has a solution
>>1013853
Nice, but I'd like something that can label each page, not just show the diagonals.
>>1013933
I use Illustrator. Really easy to add the seam allowance as border style. Pic related. Doesn't have the feature you want, but it's good enough. The pages come out from the printer already in order anyway.
You can set the printing to "tiled" and adjust the overlap. Set it to 0 and you just tape the pages together at the border.
Diagonals to make sure everything's aligned.
Check out Rasterbator. I haven't looked it up in years but it might have the features you're looking for.
There are also the industry standards like lectra kaledo, but I don't know about their printing settings.
i buy dress shirts and cut off the collars. Usually get nice patterns, and always from goodwill for cheap. I have a ton of them now and they are very sweet. Mandarin/nehru style
>>1013951
My grandmother had a couch with that pattern when I was young.
>>1013934
Rasterbator is for artsy prints. Most of the outputs come out as gigantic dots.

How do i get started making clothing?
>>1014246
Get a sewing machine. Any cheap old second hand will do. Read the manual front to back. Read it again, and try out all the different settings with a cheap piece of fabric. Try out how it looks when something's wrong (upper thread tension wrong, lower thread tension wrong, etc).
sew straight, sew curves, sew corners. sew forward, back and forward again.
Basically, learn how to use your sewing machine.
Then, start with simple shit. A pillowcase. A small tobacco pouch. A linen bag. get some experience with the process of planning, cutting out, and sewing together (Protip, sewing together is the last 10% of the project, like putting the finish on a woodwork project)
Check out small simple projects like that, and work your way up to simple pieces of clothing and introductions to patternmaking (a skirt is a good start as it's very simple - if you don't wear skirts, make one for your girlfriend or mom). Another good project at that point would be to copy a pattern off of an existing garment and redo it.
Watch or read a lot of internet tutorials, and most importantly, do some projects. From start to finish. Because you need experience with every step if you want to make clothing.
