Are you not aware of sex linked traits? There are a significant number of genes on the X chromosome not carried on the Y chromosome because it is much more stunted in size. Men only carry one allele for traits tied to the sex chromosome. As a result men will suffer more often from recessive conditions but at the same will suffer less so than a woman with the same recessive condition.
