I think it's a little unfair to conflate the two. The management of the con being a bit of a disaster isn't necessarily indicative of the behavior of the wider community. I mostly agree with this. I've met, and regularly chat with, a whole bunch of different artists and general size fans (all online, of course). Some are a little odd, but for the most part, they just seem like normal people. Because, surprise, surprise, they are.
I'm interested in SizeCon as a case study. What DOES happen when you get a reasonably sized gathering of size fetish fans together in the same place? Is it a cringeworthy autism clusterfuck? Is it just a room of awkward, shy people not really wanting to make eye contact with anyone? Is it reasonably fun and friendly? We don't know yet. The only comparable events we have to compare against are Jit's NYC size meetups - and by all accounts I've seen, they've been an overwhelming success.
Even if I lived in the NY area, I probably wouldn't attend. It would be "interesting" no matter what, but I'm probably just too much on the shy, "what if I see someone I know?!" side of things. Otherwise, I'm curious to see how it goes, and I genuinely wish them good luck and hope it turns out well.
But it has seemingly been mismanaged. They keep giving numbers that don't make sense. They keep telling us that they're confident they'll reach certain numbers, despite history showing that they cant estimate these things for shit. And as it stands, their budget still heavily relies on these estimates.

Well, while I have confidence in my writing abilities, there would be a few things to note:
1. This would be the first fetish story I've ever written. I generally hate fanfics, but I've read a few works like this. I have no idea where to post this either.

I did this in school also. Using a brown paper bag sounds risky. I cut a small hole in my backpack (black probably works best which is what I used) which I left next to my desk. Okay so, senior year, I'm in my second to last class of the day. This is a good deal after after I already did some filming, which was like, in second period. A student delivers me a summons to the office, which is written on a standard "come to office card" but thinking back, it's written pretty angrily. Like, none of the boxes are checked and just "COME TO OFFICE IMMEDIATELY" is written across the slip. Probably should have raised some flags, but I was probably thinking "oh cool maybe I'm getting out early".
Anyway, I make my way to the office. When I'm almost there, I do suddenly have the fear that it's about the videos I've been taking. The camera's in my backpack and I consider throwing it away in the bathroom. Brazenly, I do not.
Anyway, cutting to the chase. I sit down in the vice principle's office, and she says a couple girls saw what I was doing and asks for the camera. I'm fucking mortified, scared out of my mind. I desperately try to get out of the situation but she'll have none of my shit.
Face hot, fighting tears, and looking downward, I eventually give her the full set. It takes her a while but she eventually gets some playback going on the camera. I don't remember her reaction too well, but she calls my mom and I remember hearing her "WHAT???" on the other side of the line. She had to leave work to pick me up.

So I spend a MISERABLE thirty or so minutes in the office, just waiting. She eventually arrives and can barely look at me. Fuming. Her and the VP talk a bit. That part's a blur. They say they'll look at all the videos and determine a punishment. For the time, I'm suspended. We drive home.
On the way, my mother seems to calm down and notices just how destroyed my soul is. She's a very empathetic person so she starts being encouraging. Still in shock, but less fierce about the whole situation. Later, even my dad, who's a pretty angry dude, has a heart to heart with me about it. They could tell the person damaged the most by the situation was me. Though I really appreciate my parents' kindness about it, I was a husk for a good two weeks. I understood true depression for a time. Replaying the events over and over, not eating, finding difficulty to do ANYTHING fun. I'll never forget I started playing Symphony of the Night at this time. It helped, but I was still dead most the time I was playing it.
Anyway, eventually we get called to talk to the principle about punishment. 90-day in school suspension called DAEP. I also get a chat with the counselor, who is warmly empathetic about the whole situation. I'll spare the details but DAEP is a pretty good time. I get out in half the time due to good behaviour, and at this point I'm well recovered. Relatively speaking, at least.

When I'm back in school, I see all the old faces again. It's relieving when it turns out all my friends are just happy to see me again, the girls in the school treat me the same, and my teachers seem to be treating me no different either. I'm fortunate in that people seem to be mostly in the dark. At least the students do. I get a few people asking me what I did and I just tell them I killed someone, so I'm able to avoid ever talking about it and everyone seems fine.
I DO encounter the teacher I got caught filming, and we have a talk. It's embarrassing but she wants me to know she doesn't hate me and accepts my apology. Phew. But the whole rest of the school year, I've got this lingering fear over how the VP said she'd give the police my camera. I praise the stars nothing ever came of that. It was scary, because I was 18 at the time and she mentioned that I caught a 17 year old on camera, and that could be problematic, if you catch my drift. FUCK that shit. I should have mentioned, THAT was actually a big part of my fear and depression.
But yeah, there seems to be no hard record of this incident. Maybe it's because I was a nice, smart kid. My teachers liked me. Hell, the VP even liked me. Fuck, I'm fortunate. I don't know where that camera is now. Maybe in a landfill, maybe in an evidence locker. Doesn't matter. Shit's behind me now. Well, as much as it can be. I'd be lying if thinking about it in bed didn't make me cringe from time to time.
Honestly, it was kind of cathartic to write this. Though the memory still haunts me, and will forever more, it gets easier to push it back everytime. And with this, I realized just how empathetic everyone in my life really was. I had things pretty good. So thanks for helping me realize this, anon who asked.
