Chapter 3 is a shootout in a Roaring Twenties speakeasy. Even if you can't stand the main character so far, I'd recommend giving that a try and seeing how you like it from there.

I liked it, but the sound design is way, wayy too dramatic for it. With all the forboding music and moans of pain, it's all very uncanny-valley, especially since the lips don't quite match up with the sounds coming out of him/her. The bone-cracking sounds also make it seem like it was a very traumatic experience, despite the smile at the end, which makes it seem like it wasn't as big of a deal.

Wolbachia is a real parasite that is commonly found in insects around the world and is basically everywhere. For those species that are vulnerable to it, it turns the males into females. Any male that has sex with one of these transformed catches wolbachia too. Natural females are immune, but can still act as carriers.
As an added bonus, the former males often experience pathenogenesis. Spontaneous pregnancy, rather than from having sex. They only have female children.
So the story would follow the outbreak or a group of people who are watching the pandemic as it unfolds on the news until it eventually reaches their area and one by one they become infected. How they deal with it, how they react, and so on.
