Not a stupid question at all, but yes they would probably die. Not from acid entering the esophagus (this happens in people with acid reflux disease and usually takes years or decades to kill--if ulcerations or cancer occur) but from tearing of soft tissues in the GI tract. Namely it's the intestines you're worried about. You also need to consider the width of the esophagus and its proximity to the windpipe, if it breaks or prevents the windpipe from taking in air you asphyxiate. The only thing that you could argue is that somehow through a breathing tube, extreme muscle relaxers or fantasy-level body modification, the tentacles or other objects wider than endoscopy equipment could be made to safely pass through.

it would need to be about 30 feet long, be able to bend over and over again at some pretty harsh angles, NOT be a wide as any of the tentacles shown, and somehow manage to not damage the tissue along the way while pushing in the wrong direction. Technically possible, but no, not possible without 'magic' as I'm pretty sure we don't have any materials that can be that long, that bendy at will, that strong and that delicate.
