The black on blue theme on Fiction Branches is absolutely horrible, but I like the simplicity... Seems they're planning to move to a new domain and improve the design. I'll have to keep an eye on it.
CYOC looks acceptable, but things get buried very very quickly, and often by the same furry/gay stories they've shared a thousand times over. I only started on that site when I didn't know of any other writing sites that catered to this flavor of fiction.
Writing looks dated, but seems a little more fleshed out than any of the other options. -- Perhaps I'll give it a try.

I think my biggest issue with any one of these sites is how outdated they are. Screen's aren't 800x600 anymore. For sites designed for reading/writing, the readability is severely lacking. Some limit the author to specific scenarios, and offer no way to get feedback or track interest in certain chapters.

Of the options I know about, the BEA is my personal favorite, both for format reasons and content reasons. The HTML is deliberately dirt-simple so you can do whatever the hell you want to it. There's no tagging or a proper search function, but there are comments now, and the Index lets you search and manipulate the place by every other means, by author, by story, by source material, date, episode number, back-track episode, turn episode into tree, etc. Plus it's got the most sheer volume, and a generally 'okay' or better quality-level.
With the CYOC, it's divided into basic story-lines at the root-level, which is helpful and requires far less time to learn. But the place is inundated with gay content, which frequently comes out of nowhere or feels wholly inappropriate.
Fiction Branches likewise tends to have a lot of 'Sissy' content from what I've seen, which is also not my thing. Although it also has the best Search function I've seen of the group, I'm not even sure if the CYOC has one at all. I probably like it a hair better than the CYOC.
Writing.com is the easily the worst of the bunch. Not only is it a goddamn pay-site, but it is fucking impossible to navigate. The interactive stories are split up, like the CYOC. Unlike the CYOC however, there are literally thousands of them, encompassing every goddamn theme under the sun, most of them non-pornographic in nature, and with effectively no categorization or method to search through them beyond 'awkwardly narrow it down, then manually sift'. And to top it all off, the quality is absolutely fucking horrible, most episodes look like they were written by people whose ages lack a second digit, and most of the interactive stories don't even have three digits worth of episodes, I've never personally seen one past a few hundred. Plus it seems to have an INCREDIBLY constraining 2-option limit past the first few episodes.

I set up an account over on fiction branches. I gotta say, the searching and rating system is excellent. It falls short in the theme (built with tables and break tags instead of paragraphs... ugh), but seems decent over-all.
I think CYOC's interactives would be the perfect platform if they added commenting for individual chapters, smarter favoring, and an 'author page'. There's really not much anyone can do about the gay stuff, aside from taking the initiative to post new stories.
I didn't know Writing was a paid site at first glance... So yea, that's out.
