It's largely the same reasons why they quarantine MLP material these days. The people who are into it are more than happy to flood every available channel, no matter how absurd (Fallout: Equestria, anyone?) plus, as noted above, a LOT of furry artists are very protective of their distribution rights. Fchan for example keeps an updated list of Do-Not-Post artists, and it's impossible to keep track of for its sheer size.
So between the people who have seen decades of furry drama (and this goes back long before 4chan) and the people with a vested interest in sparking it, posting furry is a non-starter.
And really, it isn't like 4chan is the only game in town. If you want one of the few things that are strictly banned here, there are other collector sites out there.

I don't know. If this was ever true (and not something I'll argue, I don't know enough to make the claim) I don't think it's true any more.
It's been a decade since 4chan came about, and furry fandom has likely changed in that time. 10 years is a long time on the internet, and the internet really wasn't the same back then as it is now. And when I check out furry shit on my own, I never encounter any of the stuff I hear suggested.
They seem to be kept off of /d/ as some kind of boogeyman, when really they're pretty much harmless.
Hell, the point someone made about MLP being posted everywhere was true for a year or so. But it seems to have stopped. References might be made, but there's no more random pointless MLP threads added to a forum for a game that doesn't have horses in it at all.
I have no reason to think these claims about furries are true anymore. Not that I expect /d/s rules to change at all, since moot seems to just ignore it, but people who hate furrys for the 'drama' seem to be hating a group of people that have long gone extinct. After all, every time someone starts comlaining about furrys on /d/ the only one making a drama out of it are the furry haters.
