I dunno how related this is, but I've had a fascination of designing abyssal kanmusu for KanColle based on some of the more unusual American ship projects of WWII (Because seriously, everyone knows the Abyssal Ships are clearly American). Some of the more interesting ones:
- A fast submarine with 12.5inch cannons and some of the most absurd torpedo armament ever. Based off the 20,000t cruiser submarine proposals in the 1920s, these are basically submersible Chis with torpedoes for fingers and a set of twin 12.5inch twin cannons on the shoulders. I was actually going to commission a drawing of such, but it got postponed and then the commissionee randomly abandoned me, so...

Not like I hold anything against her. She had a lot of stuff to deal with, so I presume things will get better eventually.
Anyway, the others are slightly less ambitious - the second one I'm listing is a battleship that's basically a combination of Ru and Ta's most dangerous aspects stat-wise. On steroids. Those of you familiar with the USN "Spring Styles" books will surely remember BB65-8, the 70,000t behemoth that could travel faster than some cruisers while still keeping enough firepower and armor to take on a Yamato with more than even odds. I haven't completely thought it out appearance-wise, though.
Then I imagined the CVA-58 project as some sort of carrier with relatively high firepower ratings and devastating anti-air. More importantly, I was imagining it would be equipped with Abyssal Strategic Bombers (A nod from Warship Commander 3), which are basically dive bombers on steroids. Haven't completely thought this one out either, though.
And then lastly there's what's basically a scouting version of Re with torpedo/recon planes and slightly reduced firepower, but even more speed (Because it's based on the 34-knot battlecarrier Gibbs and Cox [or Gibs and Cocks for those of you English-challenged out there] designed for the Soviet Union...as strange as that sounds).

Clearly the 20mm Oerlikon and 40mm Bofors, and the arrangement seems to suggest it's the Americanized types (Americans almost always used single Oerlikons and twin/quad Bofors)

This is the kicker because while you could argue they were British or Russian for the other two, the Americans were the only faction that fit the above and used 5inch cannons regularly.

And if that weren't enough, there's this abomination, which is clearly the 6"/47DP twin mounts with autoloaders ultimately used on the Worcester class light cruisers. They were also planned for the Montana class (but replaced by the 5"/54 twin in the final) and the planned successors to the Montana class (see: BB65-8 and derivatives). As far as I know no other navy used 6" guns with fully automatic loading. The British briefly had a 5"70 though, which was comparable in power.
