Eh... I dunno. I've loved some of Luceno's work but in the last few years his Star Wars stuff has felt too overindulgent. He has certain aspects of writing that he really likes (history, politics, cross-references to other works in the continuity) and he's really great at them in moderation but he's also someone who's shown increasingly that if you don't reel him in, he'll just bombard the reader with this stuff.

It'd be easy enough just to have Thrawn's mission shift to the Unknown Regions since we know that the Emperor ordered people there to investigate shit, and EU Thrawn has history in that area of space. Then he could theoretically show up post Endor again.
Not sure where, though, because the Empire post Endor is even more of a mess than in the EU. The Remnant never really materialized as a major player, got it's collective asses handed to it over Jakku, got hit with reparations and demilitarization in treaties they were forced to sign, then fucked off into the Unknown Regions to become the FO.

I think the idea is that Jedi holocrons have to be opened by opening your soul to the knowledge inside of them as a sort of spiritual action. Sith holocrons are probably opened by sensing the literal mechanisms that open the holocron and through the force physically opening it. This could be why he says that Kanan shouldn't fear it since it's just an object with no evil inside of it.

Only in name are they gone. Canon has basically made gray Jedi as the regular Jedi. Jedi are supposed to be in harmony with the entire spectrum of the Force. They're not Light Side adherent, unlike how they were interpreted to be in the EU.

In the original drafts the Jedi were the personal guard of the Emperor until the Knights of the Sith infiltrated the order and destroyed them. He was the main villain of a book series called The Thrawn Trilogy. These books were basically what kickstarted the EU after everyone assumed Star Wars would die years after Return of the Jedi. In these books he's the leader of an Imperial Remnant who returns to the galaxy to fight the New Republic and he's significant because where Vader constantly killed people when they fucked up, Thrawn only killed people when they made excuses but when they recognized their mistakes and promised to learn from them he promoted them. He learned his enemy's tactics by learning about their species' culture and understanding their mindset which is why you see him studying art in the trailer. Go into the Pastebin in the OP, then the Legends Comics link and download the comic adaptation of The Thrawn Trilogy. No, I didn't record the whole thing, just highlights. I have footage from the Hamill, Rogue One, Rebels, Carrie and Future Films panels. All but the Rebels stuff was from this part of the hall, front three rows. For Rebels I sat in the middle further back to get a better view of the screen.
