I finished rewatching season 3 of Moral Orel a while ago and I was wondering where I could find similarly dark and depressing cartoons. I enjoyed BoJack Horseman and Rick and Morty, but those have a lot of lighthearted moments. I want something that'll genuinely fuck me up. What do you recommend?

Well, Johnny Test is just an over the top version of real life. All this shit happens, but in the end it's all meaningless.

You just aren't going to find much variety in American cartoons because for a long time they were seen as primarily for children.

Your best bets are probably Duckman, Mission Hill, Oblongs, the Critic, and Boondocks, though they all focus heavily on comedy, they have a bit of that dark depressing grown-up outlook you're looking for. Sardonic humor shows, pretty much.

I'll have to check those out.

A Scanner Darkly

It uses rotoscoping but is fairly depressing

David Firth's other shorts like that one about pain are sadder.
