Yeah, it really is an absurd development. Vriska is a textbook narcissist and she faces no opposition and learns nothing, whereas Terezi is psychologically fragile and emotionally dependent on her.
And John is the all-powerful bystander idiot, with no motives of his own, simply following what Terezi says, unable to process things like "my dad is dead" or "I could save literally everyone".
Oh, sure, you could say John didn't save everyone because "retcon changes must be subtle to not destabilize the whole timeline", but that explanation makes no sense, since Vriska's revival was anything but subtle. The whole thing is extremely disturbing - if there's any philosophy to be found in Homestuck, then it is no sane man's.
It's hard to think that Hussie once wanted Homestuck to be about growing up and friendship... and we got none of that in the end. Maybe he should have stuck to writing what he knew.

For Godtier wings, do you think their design is dependent on the troll's lineage or just their blood-type? Vriska and Aranea had the same wing design, but their wings referenced their aspect and vision eightfold so it could be because they are Serkets and not necessarily because they are cerulean-bloods

It's hard to say, given the slight differences between Aradia and Vriska's God Tier wings. There's some form of symbol representation on either the top or bottom of their wings, but Aradia's doesn't seem as distinct as Vriska's, so perhaps the general design is the only thing you have to keep relatively consistent. Although that being said, didn't God Tier Eridan have some really weird wings? Perhaps there's a lot of personal freedom in the wing types and the human God Tier's just get jipped.

I wouldn't be surprised, she and Kanaya have the more unique horns that aren't symmetrical and as such their wings end up being less unique as a fitting 'fuck you'. But I'm not sure there's a canon God Tier Kanaya about to compare Vriska's wings with, so perhaps we'll never know.
Perhaps the wings just have to have some discerning element on them to tie in with the troll? Trolls like Eri and Feferi get horn-shaped wings whilst Vriska, Aradia and possible others get some symbol related to them incorporated into the basic design on top of smaller variations on the wing design. Honestly, while there's a lot to hate about the ending, my least favorite part (well, actually I think about it there's more and more terrible bits that come up so maybe not) is probably that it just kind of abandons Terezi at this emotional low point with no foreseeable way out of it. She's depressed, emotionally vulnerable, and largely alone, and it just fucking ends there! And there isn't even an easily imaginable 'this is what happened next' for her. Yeah, the hood wasn't really made for the gills, and switching the layering doesn't help. I've been trying to keep the backgrounds on the assets transparent for a possible option of changing the overall background behind Arctis later. The characters are not drawn the way they literally look in the in-universe story. This is clear because it's implied many times that there is a z-dimension in the canon universe, and characters never mention Stiller and Wilson being unusual looking despite the fact that they are photo-realistic humans. This implies that all the characters look like humans and that their skin is not really #FFFFFF. Because Homestuck has a very strong motif involving colors and colored text, AH likely made the characters have pure white, "blank" skin as a stylistic choice for the art style so that it wouldn't distract from said themes just because some of the kids are more tan than others.
In other words, the characters do not really look that way in the canon because that is not how they see each other, and it's just the style that the comic is drawn in.

In fact Kanaya and Karkat talk to each other and prove that the Gift of Gab doesn't do anything. This is lampshaded when Karkat asks dave what the Gift of Gab does because he can't see any benefit to it.
