The problem wasn't the casting in 90% of cases, the actors are fine.
The material they were given though was crap. Snyder created an elseworlds type story when he should have created a "Main" universe.
What if we're talking non-Snyder though?
Casting an unknown is always so safe with Superman, who's always meant to be a blank slate, void of personality. What if they could cast a known, bankable actor?

Superman isn't supposed to look like a Sephard. And I say this as a Sephard who knows Sephards created him.
I really enjoy Bradley Cooper's work, but I don't think even Snyder hates the Superman franchise enough to take it down a cynical alley like that.
Cooper is too much of a "funny guy" actor. Doesn't even look like a leading man.
