What are your thoughts on Saga?

The writing and the art are both very good. However, nothing about the book is groundbreaking. This isn't a problem, as few comic books are, but it's worth noting. Additionally, I think sex may be the new violence when it comes to comic book edginess.
>>
Its good.
>>
At least 3 volumes behind, but what I have read I've enjoyed.
>>
>>84459186
I liked it for the first 25-ish issues. But I just got bored of it. Which makes me feel bad because I once met BKV and he was just the nicest guy.

Started off with infinite potential to tell wild and wonderful stories.
Kinda pissed it all away.
Or at least leaks the good ideas so slowly that I lost interest around where the half breed girl showed her wings to bug teacher and killed her. Which was also coincidentally was the issue where they did probably the shitiest job ever at introducing a trans character. Like EVER. Including webcomics!

Civilian casualties, my dude.
Terrible things are done did by invading forces.
Soldiers die, to be sure, but a lot of them at least chose to fight.

Not sure I agree that lady types have it worse tho. I would just say war sucks for all involved, whether soldier or civilian, male or female, war will fuck you up in all the horrible ways.

It's literally a book written by a Furry. He even asked one of his favorite Furry artists to draw a Furry story for his island series and put the yiffing art on the cover.
>>
>>84460403
Prophet and Saga are as similar as Star Trek and Star Wars.
>>

>>
>>84460148
BKV has put out a lot of really good work over the years. Y, Ex Machina and runaways are all great. He does have problems with endings and has a bad habit of making very "TV" comics but as a whole his work is good
>>
>>84460567
There is literally no reason to use non-human furry characters. All stories can be told without Furry lead characters. Superman doesn't have cat ears and a tail now does he hmmmmm? Because he wasn't created by degenerates.

And Vaughn doesn't need put his unnecessary fetishes (like >>84459533) in the story. I expect this from El Goonish Shive, not Image.
It offends me.
>>
>>84459186
Only read the first volume so far. Was pretty upset when the cute spider died. Don't really care much for the main couple and their kid, though the tree is cool. If I keep reading it, I'll read it for The Will.
>>

Saga is not Prophet.
Brian K. Vaughan is not Brandon Graham.

Furries in comics is always a serious issue. These aren't the kind of things that should be promoted. These are what corrupt out society into a huge hedonistic hell-hole of despair, doom, and debauchery.
Like when Nambla tried to infiltrate the gay movement.
>>
>>84460774
Yes, it's a shitty furry comic full of furries.

There is no reason why the creators couldn't have written it so the mutagen turned them into humans.

>>84460835
Full human. Not anthro turtles.

Heck, why even make them turtles in the first place? Daredevil is a ninja and he isn't a furry and look how cool he is. You don't have to make Ninjas into furries.

I love the art and world building, and some parts of the story.
But it does seem to try and throw as many minorities in there as possible.

Like the black ex fiance of the main dude. I have no issue with her being black but it seems an after thought as we haven't seen any other black horned characters (to my recollection).
And then how it's "suddenly penis" to introduce the transfer character.
Have gay and trans characters whatever, but don't have that their only thing about them (which is what it seems)

Well there's no accounting for personal taste. But I've read a lot of comics and there's just something wonderful about this one. Every reveal and twist and dramatic event has had me hooked and desperate to keep reading it. I love the setting, how it's kind of like a sci-fi/fantasy version of our own world. I love the art style, i love all the characters, i love the 'SJW tumblr pandering' stuff unashamedly. I think it's great.
>>
>>84461693

>>
>>84461706
I'd say so. But if the first volume didn't thrill you, maybe it's just not for you? But the second and third volumes are really good, And in my opinion it just keeps getting better. Characters who seem one-note start to have fleshed out arcs and new characters and relationships appear. I think if there's anything at all you liked about the first volume even if you didn't love it, give the second a chance.

>>
>>84462065
>I'm just put off by gay shit in general, regardless of gender.
Well I guess that's where we differ. Cute girls or cute guys sexing each other up is just a turn-on for me, I don't care about any social justice issues.
>>
>>84462080
Good for you, but that doesn't answer my question.

Is this comic full of that stuff?
>>
>>84462065
How funny. It's people like you who make me weep for the state of /co/. /co/ used to be love.
>>
>>84462113
Pray tell, if you aren't a troll.

What's wrong with me wanting to read comics without being bombarded with political crap? What if I don't really care about it?

That's how it started. I didn't care. Until I got sick of it. And now I do care. I care in the worst way.
>>
>>84462094
There are gay characters in it, Yes. If that puts you off reading something i don't know what to tell you.

Grow up, maybe?
>>
>>84462094
The stuff you're worried about is there. I don't know what counts as being "full" of it though. The main characters are a straight couple. The main protagonists are all straight. Gayness and trannies are not what the story is about, it's about parenthood and family.
>>
>>84462141
Everything is political.
>>
>>84462165
People say that, and I finally found a counter argument.

It's /v/ related, but I finally found something with no political leanings. You know what it is? It's Kingdom Hearts.

>>84462151
Perhaps you'd feel safer in the Steven Universe threads. Or perhaps Unbeatable Squirrelgirl? Maybe even Homestuck?

>>84462159
I don't care about it in contemporary settings, but it really bugs me in more creative settings. If only because it's makes the attempt to virtue signal obvious.
>>
>>84462195
>I don't care about it in contemporary settings, but it really bugs me in more creative settings
So the sexual orientation of characters should be more limited in settings that are fantastical?
Look, the story isn't about how pansexual transgender otherkin fight da evil white man, it's a story about a couple from warring species that a kid and are trying to get away from a galaxy-wide war while raising their kid. If the fact that this story features sexual minorities in it, then don't read it. It's no water off my back. You're the one who's missing out on a pretty good story because you're afraid of it depicting gays.
>>
>>84462244
Wow. Somehow entire words just completely disappeared between me writing and posting that.
>couple from warring species that had a kid*
>minorities in it bothers you*
>>
>>84462195

> but it really bugs me in more creative settings. If only because it's makes the attempt to virtue signal obvious.

Science fiction has always, ALWAYS been the at the forefront of gender and sexual progressiveness.

It's the vision of the author, if you want to build a universe where everyone is a transsexual cybernetic pigeon you can because it's your world. You have no obligation to build a world that looks anything like ours.

If you have an issue with "virtue-signalling" you have an issue with sci-fi as an entire genre and practically as a concept.
>>
>>84462324
Star Trek: The Original Series is SJW pandering because of Lt. Uhuru, right? A black woman in a position of authority?
>>
>>84462324
>>84462339
Don't get me wrong, I respect that sci fi has almost always been used as a vehicle to push new concepts and break taboos, and stuff like the first interacial kiss are landmarks in entertainment influencing societal change.

But I don't think transexuals and homosexaulity are something that should really be pushed as the new frontier. Especially transexuality, given it's own dubious history(look up the case of David Reimer, the one that was used to "prove" that gender was learned).
>>
>>84462391
Then don't read it, problem solved. Why are you even still here? The series is obviously something you'd hate. There's nothing more you can gain from being here.
>>
>>84462414
That scared of having someone disagree with you?
>>
>>84462474
But we've disagreed from the beginning. You wanted to know if this series was for you. You now know it isn't. Why are you acting like an ass about it?

>>
Everything between where they take on new identities to issue 35 is hot garbage.
>>
I give it a 6/10. Vaughn does a good job with the lore and characters and goes out of his way to make the world feel "lived in".

Neither he or Staples make any attempts to take advantage of the medium. It feels like Vaughn would rather be writing a TV show. Fiona's art is very workmanlike; it does it's job and nothing more. I can't help but wonder what this comic would be like if Vaughn chose a more exciting artist to work with.
>>
>>84459186
I'm surprised at all the nudity.

Seriously, I didn't know comics could show semi-erect penis or vagina.
>>

>>
>>84465651
This. I don't get why people are acting like the art is so incredible. It's pretty bland stuff and the character designs are hot garbage. Humans with wings and horns glued on, like seriously the artist doesn't even attempt to make it look organic, look at the OP.
>>
>>84459186
It was good in 2012 when it was the only sci-fi comic in America but now there are probably 10 or 20 better sci-fi comics at Image alone. There is literally no reason to read it unless it's your first comic. Staples is a mediocre artist and BKV's attempts at stoner humor are cringe.

thanks Hilary.I would kind of see it if it was in medieval times but its bullshit in modern times and even more bullshit in the setting of the comic since both women pictured are skilled in combat, as is marco's mom(which seems to be typical for her people) only one it really sucked for so far is prince tv and his people
>>
>>84459510

>>
>>84462324
>Science fiction has always, ALWAYS been the at the forefront of gender and sexual progressiveness.
to me it has been about challenging new ideas or concepts, sometimes even goals for development(like tablets) if I build a furry utopia it does not mean Im pushing an envelop, its the same with gender stuff
>>
Started out pretty good, but it suffers from the same thing a lot of BKV comics do, an over-reliance on dramatic cliffhangers and characters all acting like assholes. I think once it's ended I'll try reading through it, most of his comics are way better if you can read them all in one go because the aforementioned cliffhangers and asshole characters are easier to ignore.
>>
>>84462244
>So the sexual orientation of characters should be more limited in settings that are fantastical?
depends on what story you are going for, fantastical settings often have assbackwards thinking or traditions to get you thinking about your own.
