Take twitter, for example. The point of following somebody is that their tweets appear on your default page. It makes it easier for you to read what they say. But if you're following 10,000 people, you're effectively following nobody. Somebody could tweet that they found Jimmy Hoffa's body under an Arby's and chances are you would completely miss it.
The same is true for YouTube. Yes, channels have millions of subscribers. But that's because the people subscribing are subscribing to everything. If somebody is subscribed to 200 channels, and many of those channels upload videos several times per day, then MatPat can't complain that his two-times-a-month show doesn't get seen when it's drowned out by all of the other garbage people are uploading. It has nothing to do with YouTube undervaluing his content or failing to send out notifications.
