Casual racism from random anons on 4chan is exactly what you need to get over that discomfort. Just reading the words nigger or chink shouldn't make you cringe, it should be reading the words by someone with authority or power using it to rally people onto their side or to put down someone else, IE: a well-known journalist, politicians, a billionaire who decides to run for president and gets scarily close to winning.

If you don't get over this mild discomfort and people cave into "I shouldn't say faggot on a message board!" then we get a small group who think that by shouting loud enough, they will get what they want for minor issues and in fact, do.
>Ban Speedy Gonzales! (Mexicans thought he was great)
>More black characters in comics! (Rather than making new ones, they raceswap old ones because Marvel does not want to create new IPs)
>Eventually race and gender swapping becomes the main gimmick and hook (New Ghostbusters)
>This gimmick ruins things for other storytellers who want to genuinely have a gay character but are now seen as pandering by general audiences (Steven Universe)

It's worse to be hyper sensitive than casually racist because, for the most part, people don't take their casual racism into work or school with them. But being discomfort online is just going to be worse in the real world.

Apologies in advance for the blog post.

I feel like I'm growing out of being able to enjoy cartoons, which is something I never thought would happen. I see threads everywhere for things like The Loud House, Wander Over Yonder, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Gumball et al. While I have attempted to watch them, they just don't appeal to me whatsoever, and I used to be able to watch and enjoy anything animated, regardless of quality. I suppose it was bound to happen eventually, but it's still troubling nonetheless.

I feel this way too but ONLY about TV cartoons. I think film animation has taken a step up in my interest. Like Inside Out, Zootopia, Wreck It Ralph, The Croods, LEGO Movie were all fucking fantastic.

I feel like I enjoy film more because I can "see" them progressing in terms of storytelling. All this movies feel WAY better than most old Disney movies. Same thing with live action tv shows where we get amazing shit like Breaking Bad or Orange is the New Black consistently, whereas before it was maybe JUST Sopranos who was on top of the world and all other high quality drama was stuff like Law & Order.

Whereas TV cartoons have stagnated in content and storytelling since the 90's boom. Everyone is still telling the same jokes, doing the same things, even Steven Universe can't get past its, "U-Uh, we're a show for kids! Quick, throw in some silly faces and butt jokes that'll make them laugh and have a plot about Greg winning money just to lose it all in the end!" 90's-tier writing. The only kids show that felt like it was doing something special was Gravity Falls for a little bit, but then went overdose on the silly SHOUTING humor and didn't focus enough on the Goosebumps aspect. Also creator is a hack.

Now it's a fuckfest over how much Peter can get shit on between Bendis and Slott.

Same goes for Gwen Stacy as a whole. She was made to be a throwaway character, used to show that even heroes are vulnerable. Now she's just a cash cow along with the rest of Marvel's waifubait.

>I just don't wanna hang out with racists and mysoginists
Except casual racism isn't the same as actual racism because people are referring to those who just say "Nigger" to refer to someone on an anonymous board as "a shitty person". This person doesn't actually think worse of blacks, even if they try to seem edgy by saying, "Fuck blacks", it's usually to trigger someone because people like getting into shitposting fights.

But being sensitive in any place means you're going to be that asshole who is overly sensitive to ANYTHING who will watch a movie and go, "Why is there only one woman character? Ugh, Hollywood" like fucking Avengers 1.

>>
>>84407917

>>
>>84407664
Personally, I'm of the belief that you can be racist all you want as long as you're tolerant and don't let it hurt others. If you refuse to hire someone because of a dumb reason like race, then fuck you. If a black guy sits next to you and you whisper to your friends racist shit loud enough where they can hear you and feel shitty about themselves, fuck you.

If you hate all Mexicans but that doesn't stop you from considering one for employment and you keep the shit you have to say about them to yourself or to your like-minded group of friends who can actually just shit-talk racist things in private, then there actually is no harm because no one knows you're doing it. Everyone puts up a facade in real life compared to how they ACTUALLY are, there's no reason why racism shouldn't also be a trait of yours you hide away, doesn't mean you're not allowed to have it, contrary to what most SJWs believe that you should be blasted of all thoughts completely.

And to make it /co/ related, here's a neat short about putting up a facade.

- I really wish /co/ was willing to have long 300+ post threads about stuff like Love and Rockets and The Wicked + The Divine. Maybe even stuff like A Distant Soil or Dykes to Watch Out For. That'd be a welcome change from the usual shit.

- If "waifu" and "cuck" threads went away forever, I'd be okay with that.

I've said this several times before and I'll say it again. I think Steven Universe would vastly improved if they introduced some recurring villains that posed an actual threat to the Gems. Doesn't matter if they're humans, gems, or aliens. I just want some bad guys to appear
>>
>>84408186
I think AT and SU would both vastly improve from a director with a stronger iron fist who wouldn't let the boarders take complete control over an idea. Having a tough director who can channel creatives into producing the work they want to see is the reason why Gennedy and Craig McCracken are much more masterful than Pen Ward or Sugar. Even Hirsch was on top of his game until he burnt out completely and said fuck it.

I know animation is blah blah collaborate process, but I don't like the inconsistency when I can tell, "Oh, Lauren Zuke wrote that joke because no one else writes Peridot like that". It makes it hard to love a show.

I think the internet's prevalent obsession with individuals whose only claim to fame is, cyclically enough, the internet's obsession with them is evident of the kind of self-fellating psychosis that created a down spiral circa 2008. Ever since it's been nothing but an unending torrent of youtube personalities, e-celebs, bloggers, SJWs, unironic armchair stormfronters, sensationalists, propoganda pushers, clickbaiters, bandwagoners and just about every variety of self-important nobody you can imagine going ham on stage to steal any shred of spotlight they can tap dance under simply due to the pathological attention starved habits of receiving validation or opposition through upvotes, retweets, views, likes, screencaps, (You)s and whatever digital cocktail of dopamine and adrenaline the social media is dealing on your local corner resulting in a shallow group of actors and audience members in every corner of media, including comics, more interested in the numerical value that informs them something is becoming increasingly known rather than whether something was worth knowing.

I liked Daredevil with Ben Affleck, I like parts of GL movie, yet from day one i found Avengers 1 really bland and boring movie with lots of missed potential, I find most of guardians of galaxy movie boring and the only good parts are when the guardians are talking to each other, which this movie didn't have enough of, imo. I'm assuming some stereotypes don't solely rely on how big the percentage is, just it's relation to other groups. You can have one group that's 7 times more likely to have red hair, but it doesn't rely on half or more of the group being red heads. It actually can be an incredibly low percentage, but if it's more than other groups, that's what they're sacked with. I can kinda see how a lot of people feel, whether on the receiving or giving end.

Making more of the latter won't solve anything, because we already have plenty.

There is already an abundance of comics featuring original characters in stories that reach conclusions, but few people are willing to buy them.

We just need to convince more people to buy those comics that already exist.

>27% of French Muslims (age 18-24) support the Islamic State
That's not what the link says.

http://www.newsweek.com/16-french-citizens-support-isis-poll-finds-266795
>One in six French citizens sympathises with the Islamist militant group ISIS, also known as Islamic State, a poll released this week found.
>The poll of European attitudes towards the group, carried out by ICM for Russian news agency Rossiya Segodnya, revealed that 16% of French citizens have a positive opinion of ISIS. This percentage increases among younger respondents, spiking at 27% for those aged 18-24.
27% of French youngsters of ANY religion, not 27% of French Muslims. The article doesn't say how French Muslims specifically feel.

I got into reading Batman comics in 2010. I've tried to branch out since then to Marvel and other DC properties, and while I've read a bunch of stuff I liked, I still only really like Batman-related characters.

I'm not even saying this to be a hipster or memer or whatever the fuck. I fucking *tried*, man. I genuinly can't find other characters I give a shit about. It's kind of a bummer, because I know there's plenty of great content out there that I would love if I only gave a shit about the characters in it.

Honestly, I might be cursed, because in 2008 the first Batman comic I actually read was the recolor version of the Killing Joke. I read it because I liked The Dark Knight, and I wanted to read a good important story about Gordon, and that's where a quick Google and Wikipedia page lead me. God damn it, my entrance to cape comics was that shitty fucking recolor and now my tastes will never be able to expand to new things. I'm fucking cursed.

I'm really getting worried about some of you folk here. Trying new things is great and all, but don't feel you have to dedicate your life to absorbing media or something. It's like those lists that tell you the Top 100 things or places or whatever you've gotta do before dying instead of telling you how to just enjoy life instead of making your days a stressful checklist.

If you find something you enjoy that's all that matters. Again, searching and expanding your horizons and all that can help, but don't be neurotic about it or you'll just feel miserable about the whole experience. Like those poor saps who read every event or collect #1s or whatever nonsense gets people hooked on gimmicks geared to sell knowingly shit writing.

The article quotes the Muslim population at the time as about 5 million, and the population of France at the time was about 65 million, which made the Muslim population of France come out to be about 8% of the French population.

No, it wasn't the French Muslims voting that way, it was the French EVERYTHING voting that way.

I don't see it as a neuroticism that I may be missing out on something. It's more of an addiction to finding stuff to like. When I like something, I LIKE it. >So how does interviewing a thousand people translates into a healthy percentage of a population of dozens of millions again ? I really hate polls.

Because statistics really is that powerful. Even for a population of millions 1000 responses is a large enough sample size that it can predict the populations true feelings within +/- 3% of the real percentage.

Sample size isn't the issue you should be having here. The real concerns should be how the sample was selected (the statistics of it all only work if the sample is a true random selection of the population) and how the questions themselves are presented/worded, which can massively affect how people respond.
>>

Sorry in advance for the blog post.

I'm an artist that's currently working on a passion project that I want to hopefully make into a cartoon someday. >such a thing could have happened under specific circumstances in the polling
No.

>France – respondents were selected by random digit dialling (80% landline, 20% mobile) and interviews were conducted by a live interviewer. Responses were weighted to age, gender, profession of head of household and Agglomeration category.
The pollsters asked for a few background details, but not their religion.

That falsehood was entirely a /pol/ invention.

What other lies from /pol/ have you swallowed without thinking?

I don't know why, but I fucking hate this term. I'm NatSoc and I just don't like it for some reason. I think I just need a break from /pol/.

40 years is a pretty long time to be reading comics

I am the anon that posts seals.

/co/ used to be pretty liberal. Back in the good ol' days, we were even friends with Scans_Daily (the original S_D, not the new one that tarnished its memory).

These kinds of posts only encourage me. You guys should drop the avant-teen thing and stop trying to act like a yuppie on 4chan.

Also Brad Neely was never that funny even back in 2008 when that kind of humor was edgie and """fresh"""

Alt, yes. Right, or left, or whatever political faction you identify with, no. It used to be about shitting on everyone, but I guess you wouldn't know about that.

i miss waifu chart threads

The comic book industry is going to completely collapse. And what more, they deserve it.

comics and cartoons are still not socially acceptable hobbies.
I liked the Injustice comics,

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think I've been desensitized because I've been browsing 4chan for so long. Gore doesn't really freak me out anymore, or anything really.

I'm genuinely sad that of all things Jem isn't being included in the Idw/Hasbro revolution thing. I understand why but also would a little one issue crossover thing really be that bad?
>>
The words "tumblr" "cringe" and "sjw" have become so overused on this website they've lost all meaning. At this point it just means "thing I don't like" like how meme devolved into meaning that for a while.
>>
>>84407246
Most DC fans on /co/ seem insecure to me, I guess it's good you're admiting it though.

I never really understood all this company war shit on this board. Seems really juvenile, but I guess it is the comics and cartoons board.
>>
>>84407107
I hate both desu

Me and my girlfriend lost our virginity to each other because of Moore's Lost Girls.

BvS threads are the worst thing to happen to /co/ in a long time, the capekino meme is even worse.

/a/ vs /co/ threads are getting desperate.

I will never watch Steven Universe, it doesn't appeal to me.

Bendis was good, Ultimate Spider-Man and Daredevil are proof of that. He's terrible now.

Ennis' reasoning for hating superheroes is fine, but I don't understand his reasoning for hating Captain America. He says it takes away from the tragedy of men who fought in the WWII when his two creators actually served in the war.

It makes me sad that the Fantastic Four will never have a good movie.

I've had roleplay sex, she was Talia, I was Batman.

Jack Kirby is a fantastic artist, but he was never able to draw male faces well.

Pax Americana and Dark Night: A True Batman Story are the best comics of the decade so far.

I enjoy Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Me and my girlfriend ship FitzSimmons. I don't think it helps that I'm Scottish and she's English.

Homestuck's been the only web comic I've been able to get into, much less continue reading til the end.

I may never get a netflix account and help save western animation and there for i refuse to pirate any netflix show.
>>
I guess they can't be banned because technically they count as "board-related discussion" but I've always found the dedication of threads to a comic/show that is generally hated on /co/ to be a little confusing

Yeah I get that it can be fun to shit on things collectively like watching a bad movie but it's weird to see daily threads of things on /co/ that are supposedly hated

It just comes off as pathetic flailing over an issue everyone long since stopped giving a shit about

And before you say anything, yes I ignore those threads. I just still find it strange
>>
I think any show that willingly makes a 24/7 general on /trash/ should be banned from /co/
>>
The only part of Transformers that isn't great right now is RiD, and I only say that because I find it horribly boring.
>>
>>84407474
Try harder
>>
Steven Universe ranges from ok to good, the music's nice and I like the voice acting.
I don't see the point in being racist/sexist w/e for no real reason. As far as I'm concerned making enemies for no reason other than boredom is a waste of time.
Conversely, the average SJW-type is incredibly thin skinned and seems to just become aggravated over the slightest thing, especially stuff that they don't really care about anyways i.e. HydraCap.
Tumblr and 4chan are both safe spaces, just for different types of people.

I have the opposite problem, no matter how hard I try I just can't get into Batman related things. It genuinely baffles me how he's so damn popular. I like his villains, but I find Batman himself insufferable and boring and I can't find myself caring about the Robins or Batgirls.

Funnily enough, I really like characters that were "inspired" by Batman so to speak. Moon Knight and Midnighter are some of my favorite cape characters.

TKJ recolor is superior to the original hack color job.
>>

I'm seriously considering never watching cartoons again because I used to watch them all the time with my ex and now they just remind me of her.
>>
The DoA generals kinda bug me, but only in the morning when the board is slow enough for it to get stuck on the first page. Though I'll usually hide it and the QC threads just so I don't read through responses of >She.
>>
I think the original Beast and Iceman designs (sans blue hair and fluffy snowman) are superior to all other renderings of those characters.

I don't mind Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.

I like Whedon's Runaways stint.

Eric O'Grady was my first Ant-Man and is still who I think of when I hear the title.
