it is a real pain in the ass that good shows keep getting canceled because they dont sell toys, but the toys are shit or worse they don't exist.
that's not the show's fault! they did their DAMNEDest to make us want toys. it's pretty fucking clear who didnt pick up their end on this one.

3d printing is a thing anon.

Become a 3d modeler, print the individual pieces. $500 is a cheap investment for being able to make your own action figures.
>>
>>84382317
Yeah, I'm sick of "Five points of articulation" crap. Why do execs think that hips, shoulders. and Neck is acceptable in this day and age? We've had GI Joe since the 80's! that should be your minimum standard for articulation
>>
>>84382394
that would be true if not for the requirement that the plastic be soft and shitty
>>
>>84382431
the sad thing is the most recent generation actually thinks kids WANT shitty simple crap. if you look at transformers from the last couple years, compared to the HUGE strides they made in the years prior. they're back to one-step bricks

As a semi-pro model builder, that's a poor excuse. Learn to use the right products and methods and you shouldn't have any problems you haven't already solved 5 steps before.
>>
>>84389374
yeah but best case scenario you still have resin, not proper plastic. shit's gonna break like a goddamn candle. i'm just sayin, man.
>>
>>84389374
also if youre a semi pro, can you explain to me how people cut through plastic with a hobby knife? i mean yeah it's sharp but it's not serrated, so sawing back and forth doesn't work. you can keep scoring and scoring the same spot and hope someday it cuts through, but it doesn't. not on plastic that's hard enough to be worth a damn.

I remember buying Star Wars figures in the 90's compared to the ones that were coming out during the Prequels. The 90's ones had shoulder, hip, and leg articulation and that was back then (the sculpts were about as good as today, too). The figures coming out in the early-mid 00's had wrist, elbow, shoulder, neck, chest, hip, leg, knee and foot articulation (some of those were ball joint, even), and the sculpts were really good (or at least for only costing about $8).
Those 6'' Star Wars figures from ten years back are of almost the same quality as the Star Wars Black sets from today, which cost $50 despite only being 2 inches taller and having slightly more texture to the clothing.
How did this happen, where what used to be the base standard of quality in action figures is now considered the high-end deluxe alternative?

for a while, plastic costs skyrocketed. the same pressures that took GI joe from barbie-scale down to 'tiniest action figures around' had no further outlet really. nowhere else to go.
still, each manufacturer is different. playmates gives no fucks about scale, doesn't understand how to make articulation useful, and generally sculpts everything in an actiony pose that it is now unable to get out of.. that and terrible gimmicks, and it's amazing they've been in business long enough to get to the point where they're now actively worse than ever (leaving out tons of vital paint apps on each figure)
but they're artisans compared to jakks pacific, who thinks it's okay to build spindly-limbed characters like from adventure time or sonic out of the plastic equivalent of biscotti.

is this kenner you're talking about, in both cases? because i haven't seen much from kenner in some time, it might be that the rights have changed hands

but when you look at takara tomy you can see the real changes over a long period working on similar products.
>>
>>84390181
They realized they could get away with selling the standard as premium, and peddle shlock as the base version.
Toy companies basically took a page from the EA playbook, sell the full thing as premium, like you're doing them a favor, even though the same thing was either:1.Previously sold in its whole form in the past as base model, And/Or 2. Is still made by other companies in its full regular form.
It's brilliantly unethical.
>>
>>84390221
i knew it!!
okay that and a small dremel drill and i'll be ready.. someday. so many spare parts.. i know i'll be a model customizer.. someday.. so many ideas.. fuckers telling me an x-acto and a pin vise would be enough.. i knew they were wrong.
>>
>>84390355
hell most toy companies i'd THANK them to do that. they refuse to even HAVE tiers, as if they're some kind of rabid net neutrality protestors.
they cram everything into one rank. one size class. one level of paint application. nevermind you're adapting a tv show or whatever, so accuracy should be the #1 priority.. they bend over fucking backwards to force that shitty stalinesque conformity and put everything in a box.
>>
>>84390181
I'd gladly take fewer joints if it means a better sculpt.
Too often I find that joints on lower end toys are ugly as sin and either feel super breaky or won't support its own weight. I mean on something under $10.
As long as the neck, hips, and shoulders move, I'm happy.
>>
>>84390463
the problem there is you might as well have a statch if the movements look terrible and always inappropriate. what's the point of being able to pose something to walk like a 30s movie mummy?

That was the beauty about the Star Wars figures. Because of the armor and ribbed clothing most of the characters wore (or weirdly textured skin in the case of aliens), the joints were easily hidden or meshed naturally with the clothes. In the case of Jedi, they always gave them a cloak which covered up everything unless you took it off.

As for how they hold up, I still have most of my old ones in a box in my attic. Use to play with them all the time, and they're still all in one piece.

The weapons they came with may have been a bit cheap though, I'm not sure. As a kid, dumb as i was, i managed to break a number of the accessories either by stepping on them or slamming them into things too rough. But considering how small they were, i suppose that was bound to happen.

This show is agony for me because it's pilot is literally one of the greatest animated pilots that has been produced in the last 20 years.

It literally has everything: Complex setting lore, mature issues with some degree of nuance, good villains characters teeming with narrative hooks for future development, and material for good intergroup interaction.

It should have written itself, and yet immediately after the pilot the show swerves and plummets so far in quality so quickly that only the destruction of the space shuttle Challenger could possibly outmatch it.

yeah nobody does cloth on figures anymore. i guess that has probably become even MORE expensive, and really most of it looks lousy (mainly because it's too thick when you mentally scale it up. it drapes wrong. the only good one was the oldschool splinter figure, who basically had a chamois cloth on.. but then that got so grimy. i mean that suits that character, but)
>>
>>84392120
just.. better than that. i guarantee there's little range of motion for the legs unless that's VERY soft rubber on the skirt. the clothes are missing lots of paint apps. the tail appears to be a tripod leg, probably just on a rotating cut joint.. there's no wrist movement, the hands are weirdly open, and the feet aren't painted. other than that I guess it's okay, aside from the offmodel hair.

>>84397646
People really don't seem to understand that you have to support this stuff. If you want to see more action shows on TV, watch the ones that are already there. Even if it isn't perfect, it's better than nothing at all. If the show does well, other studios will try to follow suit with their own action series, which means more shows to choose from. Then, and only then, you can be picky.
>>
>>84399726
exactly
though it's not like any amount of 'support' would help when CN obviously hated it, wanted it gone, and bandai did a cruddy job on the toys.. though in a lot of ways they were trying. i dunno, i just know they can do a lot better.
one thing we need to stop seeing is multiple sizes of the same characters. what the shit is the point? there's VERY limited shelf space, you don't want to be competing with yourself.
Okay yeah, not all families can afford the same shit, but in general the more efficient you are the better you can be with your pricing.
and considering you have characters as tiny as the kittens and as big as grune and panthro, it makes sense to stick with ONE scale and try to put everyone to rights with each other. a parent might say "you can have a big one and a small one or two regular ones" and then there you go. they can build their collection.
if you design ONE good toy, then everyone will need to have it. better that (which costs less to produce) than trying to make a million extraneous things

Really, they should just stick to one size action figure (kid characters can be an inch or so shorter, but proportionally still fit with the others) and make all the playlets and vehicles compatible with the figures.

It creates a "collect them all" mentality to the figures, and kids will be more likely to choose them over other toys.

It also makes it really easy to expand upon the line. Just about any new character can get a figure, and any new vehicle can get a toy which the figures can sit in.

Other toys should then really be kept to a minimum, with only sure fire things like the characters weapons getting toys made of them (those usually sell pretty well).
>>

Hundreds of thousands of Americans download loli every day with no issue. Why would you be paranoid of being the first and only person to ever be prosecuted for doing so?

All of the US cases against loli involved physically sending it through the mail service or used as additional charges against someone that had actual CP. Prosecutors know that if they ever tried to go after someone for JUST loli they would get shot down.

this. why do the same main characters in 4 different sizes when you can just have the various sidecharacters?
idiotic moron executives now think 'less important characters don't sell'.. fuck you, characters you already have don't sell. the only reason to periodically reissue the main characters is that their first wave tends to sell out quickly and late-joiners like me miss out on those.
>>84400389
in the same way you can be arrested for buying a funny-looking pipe ostensibly meant for tobacco, yeah. police can do whatever they want. and rightly so. but you won't be convicted.
the fact that being involved whatsoever in the legal process is such a life-ruining experience is not a problem with law or law enforcement, but with the judicial system and to an even greater extent, lawyers.
my family and friends don't have 5-minute memories. they remember when nobody gave any fucks about this and there were naked cartoon kids everywhere you look.
>>

well the problem is like, i mean, i was able to get cheetor but that was it. rattrap and rhinox were nowhere to be found. i loved these guys but i couldnt get em. ever. i managed to get a remold of terrorsaur at least.
the only tv characters i managed to grab were scorponok and inferno (big sizes helped keep them on shelves longer) and optimus and megatron (even moreso).. and like, i managed airazor and quickstrike but those were later releases so it was easier.

shit i remember when i tried my ass best to collect street sharks, and by the time I got to the store they were fresh out of normals, so I got the metallic alternates (which were better anyway) but even THOSE were gone by the time I got to streex, and I had to get yet another alternate xtreme-sports-version new mold of him.. which didnt have the claws, so I was disappointed. then i managed one villain (who was shelfwarming) before the whole fucking line disappeared.
the most successful i ever was, and this is pretty sad, was getting four earthworm jim figures before that line vanished. i remember around that time i tried getting the ronin warriors figures too, got three of em.. i was flabbergasted when they were re-released 6ish years later, but in the wrong colors.. and by then I had painfully realized how bad their heads looked
>>
anyone else used to design their own toys?
i drew a complex articulated power rangers figure that could still have removable armor, so each limb segment had to have its own part. I was too Eight to understand that that wouldn't work for several reasons including plastic thickness and the need for joints to be covered.. I still felt proud of myself.
i also designed my own beanie babies (somewhat more believable and onmodel this time, I think I was about 12) because i didnt like the existing animal choices. then later, similar ones actually came out (still cant believe they made a goddamn scorpion)
