Why do telepaths not care about boundaries?
>>
It's mostly just Mutants.
>>
>>84379350
Because who's gonna stop them?
>>
>>84379359
It's mostly just anyone who has Jean's genes in them.
>>
Because writers.
>>
>>84379350
I think that is the whole thing about telepaths: looking at other people's minds, even without permission.
>>
>>84379350
Mind Reading is hard to detect, easy for them to do, and really useful for them.

If it was something commonplace, we'd have as many social/legal/technological ways of discouraging it as we do spying on people normally.
>>
>>84379350
I remember them meeting before OMD, where they knew who he was, and she was a lot friendlier to him then. Maybe it's just a matter of a masked man who nobody knows being alone with their kids that makes Rachel upset.
>>
>>84379350
Why do you care about people reading your mind, huh? You got something to hide you mutatephobic shitlord? Are you going to be the next Stryker or something???
>>
Same reason you rudely stare at other people instead of staring at the ground when you go outside.
>>
>>84379438
No but if every time I see you I think about the time I kissed your mother, full on the lips in front of your father, that's not something I want YOU to know. It's just common courtesy.
>>
>>84379469
>implying I don't stare at the ground
I truly fear eye contact with strangers.

>>84379438
I'm a mutant. If I catch you reading my mind, it's still not gonna be pretty.
>>84379469
>it's rude not to stare at the ground when you're outside
What. You do realize glancing at your surroundings, including other people, is different from staring, right?

What you need is specialized sexual defenses. Jean and Rachel could probably be dealt with by imagining the most /d/ shit possible being done to them both. At the very least, they'd probably react enough you'd know they're in there.
Emma, though? Her time at the Hellfire Club means she's probably super jaded to things like that.

But, just like it is normally, it would be okay for the government to do it.

You know, as much of a fun series that was (even if it has now left us stuck with Glob Herman), the main thing I hated was how overly antagonistic the X-Men sans Iceman were to Peter for no reason, especially when Spider-Man is an old friend of theirs.

Man, if I could read minds, I'd do it to everyone I could too. It'd be like living in a different world.

If someone was suddenly immune to your powers, you'd also be curious as to why.
>>
>>84380341
See, I didn't mind it AS MUCH because the series was clearly a comedy, and they played up their antagonism for laughs. Iceman was a bit weird, but whatever.

What's weird is only this time she's so heavily interested in reading his mind, but when Spock was in control during the Avenging series, somehow saying it would be bad for their image was godawful. Character inconsistency abounds when you have multiple writers having to write around each other's plots.

I want there to be a series of J'onn riding herd on Earth's telepath population. He makes sure they're doing okay and not dicking with people and helps them control their powers and learn to use them responsibly.

Imagine Akira, but suddenly J'onn.
>>
>>84382057
>Imagine Akira, but suddenly J'onn.
Now that you mention it a visual spectacle of J'onn's shapeshifting powers and mindfuckery are sorely lacking. Maybe it would seem like a retread of Tetsuo but I honestly don't give a damn, the time is now to rid the superhero wave as hard as possible. DC should be pushing every last possible property as hard as possible in every way possible. A Martian Manhunter OVA like you describe would be genius.

>>
>>84379350
I honestly think that telepaths are the responsible for mutant rights being in the shitter.

I mean sure, guy that shoots lasers from his eyes is pretty terrifying as well, but being shot by your neighbour's gun will make you equally dead.
Muties that go feral, yea, that's pretty terrifying as well, but again, it's not that different from a mentally deranged human deciding to commit ritual morders or drive a truck through a classroom.
Sure, some mutants are powerful enough that they require military intervention, but it's not that much different from terrorists.

Psychics on the other hand are a threat to an individual on a whole other level.
They know all your secrets, they can kill you with a thought, they can take control over your body, they can torture you without even being in the same room.
Worst thing is that they're impossible for regular police to apprehend.
>>
>>84381604

It's a hellish dimension and qualifies Azrael as a hell lord (there are multiple hell dimensions) but it's not an actual afterlife hell.

The Fantastic Four teleported into heaven by changing the settings on Doom's time machine to go the opposite direction as it was set towards Mephisto's hell. God found it fairly clever but immediately banned that from ever working again.
TLDR No and even if it would work it was banned from working directly by God(Jack Kirby).

>>
>>84379350
Emma's just a bitch and doesn't care. most of the others are wirtten by either lazy writers (mind read, it's the fastest way to expedite this set up) or people with illogical morality (Bendis)

telepathy is literally a lazy mode sidestep solution to most problems.
>>
>>84386349
Secretly insecure about herself/appearance. the old pretty popular girl has issues/thinks she's ugly etc tropes.

Emma's also canonically had plastic surgery, so appearance anxiety is there.
>>
>>84385505
We can only pray that she died a horrific death from mutie pox.
>>84386547
The other problem is that everything that held telepaths in check is ignored by modern writers.
Years of training against telepathic attack and defenses setup by Professor X are now useless.
Characters with complete immunity or resistant to telepaths get mindfucked at the drop of a hat.
Technological jamming no longer works as apparently psychics can now hack past scrambling signals.
That's not even getting into stuff like Wolverine being programmed by Rachel to automatically hunt down and kill anyone that messes with his brain one month and then Jean05 turning his brain off without immediately getting a snik the next.

No, that's how telepaths work. They have to be taught how not to instinctively feel minds.
>>
>>84390753
You sure about that?
The text all clearly say they can hear stray thoughts just like if people were talking out loud.
Even memories and imagined images are picked up and seen without intentional actions on their part.
Some stories have even had telepaths become upset from feeling the unwelcomed negative emotions of people to the point where they are forced to physically flee from it.
Those emitting these thoughts and feelings aren't the ones suffering for it.

I wonder...if I have dirty/lustful/racist/impure thoughts about a person, and a telepath happens to hear my thoughts/the person is a telepath themselves, is it morally wrong for them to acknowledge my thoughts?

Is it only wrong if they were purposefully reading my thoughts?

Am I in the wrong for not censoring my thoughts?

Does political correctness/sexual misconduct or harrassment apply to unspoken, unwritten thought?

Were you mentally "shouting" them, or was the telepath deliberately reading your mind?

I suppose it depends on how the telepathy works.

I mean according to the Stepford Coocoos yes, they threatened to mindwipe a kid for fantasizing privately about them.

In reality no and it would be nice if we had a story about that instead of the Stepfords being right for threatening murder over a possibly involuntary action because they're girls.

In addition: I feel like a trained telepath would HAVE to know the difference between sincere beliefs and the weird, fucked up things that flash in our heads for a second before we go, "Wow that was fucked up, I don't really believe that.". The problem is a lot of telepaths were created in the 60s when we knew even less about the mind than we do now.

Traditionally its been a confidence thing. I dunno I'm fine with Emma dressing skimpy, she's clearly into it.

Bruh if im thinking about how my small dick is making me sad, the fuck are you gonna do about it?

Actually that sounds like a nice porn plot
>guy is acting insecure about something
>telepath reads his mind to find out
>ends with pity sex or s&m

Rachel is still my favorite mutant.

Does that make me gay?

I don't think it's gay for men to like women, but who knows

I'm assuming everyone has looked at another person (depending on your sexual preferences) and had at least one thought like "I would slather his/her [x] with whipped cream and go to town", or even made a mental image of ourselves performing an act/having one performed on us.

Assuming these thoughts are voluntary, or that we purposefully concentrated on having them, and that they involve a person who may or may not be a telepath, do these thoughts count as sexual harrassment?

In a world with telepaths, can charges of telepathic sexual harrassment be brought up in court?

Jean had to seriously struggle just to screen the thoughts of others *out*.

Right before she get chloroformed.

So she's instinctively an eavesdropping nosy violator of the privacy of others?

Adult Jean has always been capable of respecting the privacy of others.

If I had to make a theory I'd think that it's because Adult Jean probably knows why the professor locked her powers in the first place while 05 Jean probably doesn't remember/know of the trauma she got when her powers activated as her best friend died via being run over by a truck.
