What are some recommended comics for the 'core' Disney characters? Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc.
Mickey is that old Floyd Gottfredson stuff that Fantagraphics has been reprinting.
Donald/Uncle Scrooge is Carl Barks and Don Rosa.
Dunno who else except for when they're supporting cast in above
Mickey Mouse by Romano Scarpa is REALLY good. Several dozen of them have been published in English since the 1980s. A quick search of the Inducks site sohuld should you some.
But it's weird, Scarpa also did Ducks and they never grabbed me. But with Mice he is a master.

This guy gets it. Goofy's never really had many "classic" stories on his own, apart from maybe a few Super Goof stories, and his cousin Indiana Goof has generally never had a bad story.
If you want some modern stuff, you could look up the scanlations of Mickey Mouse Mystery Magazine. Also, buy Duck Avenger, the upcoming IDW translation of PKNA - it's $5 for 72 pages, which is pretty damn good value imo.
do people scan the Floyd Gottfredson stuff? like is it easy to find in digital

It's an index for ever Disney comic ever. Its interface isn't pretty (it came into being before Wikis popped up for every damn thing) but once you get your head round it, it's damn good.

Just check torrent sites - there'll be scans of most of Gottfredson's stuff.
