moomins are the bastard creation between a hippo and some forest critter
>>
Heard about it from a tumblr user who wasn't (very) cancerous. I saw a little bit of it, and from what I did see I liked it.
>>
I watched it as a kid.
Recently I discovered the comics and they are pretty cute, yet more mature than you would except.
On the other hand, it's finnish, so stories about drunk relatives crashing at your place might not be too adult in that context.

Enjoy, theres like 5 collected main books, also look for a copy of 'Moomins on the Riviera' It's pretty much the book coloured and animated complete with Moomin papa getting drunk.

Annnddd I'm out of Moomin art, both harvested and my own.
>>
>>84368944
>implying you can truly be friends with someone that has Snufkin's personality

Nigga just shows up and hangs around with Moomin when the weather is nice. When Moomin asks if he can go south with him he just flatly says no. He's a nomadic acquaintance, not a friend.
>>
>>84368957
I remember a episode of the cartoon where Moomin finds and injured dragonling in the river and tries to take care of it, the lil green thing keeps abandoning him to hang out with Snufkin.

>>

>>

>>
When this initially aired it spooked tiny baby me somethin awful. Something about the tone rubbed my little kid brain entirely the wrong way, and it didn't help that there was a subplot in there about a girl with an invisible head.

Also. The Groke. fuck.

Fast-forward to a couple years ago, it's on youtube, I watch a couple episodes - I love it.

Turns out occasionally spooky slice-of-life anime about trolls and shit written by gay Scandinavian women is my kind of genre.

There is a few changes - mainly in lighting and music in some episdoes. Originalsounds scary and even depresing in times - but still maching the scenes. The UK version has more cheerfull music and lighting (for exaple with groke) is lighter so you can actualy see her more.

Also I really LOVED the Riviera! But for some reason it was direct to Dvd here...
>>
the show was very popular in bosnia in the 90s, alot of people grew up on it and almost everyone knows about the moomins here.
we have a GOAT dub of that show and that really helped it's popularity. I liked watching it with my mom. She loved the the episodes that had snow/winter in them.
>>
>>84368362
Moomin is an enigma of languages.
Was originally written in swedish as the lady who wrote it never spoke finnish. She was however born and raised in Finland thus it counts as finnish. The cartoon was originally made and voiced in Japan (but directed by people from the authors family).
Also the recent movie was made in France.

You can watch Moomin in any goddamn language you want.
Fun fact: in the swedish dub of Moomin. The author is narrating.

Another, more well known fact is that little My was based on herself.

Tove wrote the books during the eclipse of USSR power.

Mumin technichally doesn't count as either Finnish, nor Swedish. It's a minority culture in Finland known as Finlandssvensk. It's hard to describe how it works, but geographically and officially they're Finnish, but many, if not most, never learn the Finnish language since it's not really required to live there, since so many speak swedish. I know it's technically Finnish, but at the same time it's not, but at the same time it is.

The "correct" way to watch Mumin is in Swedish, since it's the most accurate version of the show.

Also, your fun fact is inaccurate. Tove is not the narrator in the Swedish dub of the cartoon. The narrator's name is Vivi-Ann Sjögren.

>>84370773
This is a common misconception. She was actually bi. Mumrik/Snufkin is allegedly based on Atos Wirtanen, a man she was engaged with for a while. He also owned a green hat similar to Mumriks/Snufkin's.

>>
>>84380154
When Tove's mother died, she started to view the Moominvalley as a much more darker place, and eventually she just couldn't bear herself to keep coming back, it was too hard to write about it.

The last book ends with a character called Toft, who stands on a bridge, waiting for the Moomin family to return from their trip overseas. You never know if they come back or not. There's no implication that they either do or don't, the books just end there. It's sad as hell.

>but many, if not most, never learn the Finnish language
Not really though. You have some small cities or fishing towns in the western coast where people try to speak only swedish but the vast majority of finnish-swedes are able to speak finnish, since not speaking the language of the 96% majority of the country you live your entire life in is a fucking retarded move and limits your life sphere significantly

Most Fennoswedes, at least ones that aren't elderly, know Finnish to a degree, but in some regions, like Vaasa, where the Fennoswedes are more numerous, they refuse to speak Finnish unless it is absolutely necessary out of principle, because they are cunts with attitude problems.
They almost live in self imposed apartheid over here. They absolutely refuse to interact with Finnish speaking Finns if they can avoid it. Our fucking schools are separated between the languages.

>Our fucking schools are separated between the languages.

And? The network of Swedish-speaking schools has a separate administration than the Finnish one. So what?

You do realize that there are German schools and French schools in Finland as well?

Nothing stops Finnish-speakers from putting their children in Swedish speaking schools. And vice versa. Happens all the time in the south. My dad went to a finnish speaking school, but has never spoke a word of Finnish with me.
