How is that poster bragging? It's just demonstrating its R-rated humor. That's exactly what a poster should do; give you an idea of what the movie is like. It's better than having a dick joke on a kid's movie poster or misrepresenting Sausage Party as family friendly.

Real talk here. What constitutes a mature movie to you co/? Something like Lost in Translation that deals with the crippling loneliness in our lives that we all just want to feel wanted, dealing with serious matters like a kid trying to find a family member or a family going through a rough time with the death of a family member/friend or some other tragedy?

I personally think this movie will be shit but a friend is paying for the tickets to see it so I might as well watch it for free

Because the trailer had good jokes in it, which is good for a comedy. It's doing something that's clearly being done before, anthropomorphic food being killed by humans, but the difference here is that it's being more played by extreme, the jokes always done by kids shows, here it's way more twisted and extreme, like with the fucking baby carrots. It's horrible, but pretty fun so far, the movie could be shit, but so far I got my hopes.

>>84336145
It's almost like people want an animated movie that isn't held back by limiting it's content to family audiences while also not relying on being adult by including an obscene amount of crude and juvenile jokes.

Anomalisa was an exception and people don't count Ghibli because the "animation is childish" mentality is a problem with western animation. We all know there are plenty of adult-oriented Japanese animations.

That's because unlike James Franco or Jonah Hill, he's just a writer/producer, not an actor. When acting, he plays the character "Seth Rogen", but this is never a problem when you write yourself into your movies so that there is always the Jewish stoner man in the cast

The problem is most "adult" animation is incredibly juvenile. It's more like how you'd hear a teenager talk after they first realize they can get away with cussing. It's not adult and it's not mature to crack dick and weed jokes non-stop.

Duckman is the kind of "adult" animation I want, not stoner retard bullshit and edgy gore like you see on Family Guy and Adult Swim but a focus on humor that is designed to provoke, not shock and drama that makes me relate to characters

It's a grown man graphically beating the living hell out of a little girl. It's not done in a slapstick way either, she bruises and bleeds.

It's meant to be cathartic, but it just comes off as edgy. If they had made Charlie Brown beat the shit out of Lucy and demand she hold down the football instead, maybe it'd be funnier/more satisfying, but they had Peter do it instead.

Not Sausage Party, that's for sure. Watch City of God, Curse of the Golden Flower or Legends of the Fall. Something that has actual adult themes that are given full merit to their seriousness.

Sausage Party is just an unholy amalgamation of a Family guy/Robot chicken episode with no humor, except for the most base.

Yeah, orgies and swears are adult actions, but in the way they are used in this movie, going by the scripts, they aren't mature. It's just crass humor.

They are, though. A movie's "seriousness" is irrelevant, especially in the context of a rating system. It's all adult subject matter. Being crass and little kids thinking it's cool to swear or whatever doesn't negate that.

There's a difference between Sausage Party and some other R rated film. Anyone with taste, and I mean anyone that has an inkling of taste, would be embarrassed to even be buying a Sausage Party ticket, even online. The NSA is watching.

I would like to point out that the bagel and the lavash don't actually do anything. They don't do anything related to the main story or the other two main characters at all. At one point they are actually in position to do something about the main story, but the script literally has them say to each other "eh, fuck it, I'm not gonna do anything". 50% of the main cast has absolutely no purpose beyond a racial gay love plot. Which, incidentally, Wondershowzen already did and did better.

There are idiots who think that this film will help animation in America grow out of its "just for kids image. This film won't help the medium of animation at all. People will just see it for its novelty ("Tee-hee, a cartoon for adults!") and continue to think that every other cartoon is for kids and that all anime is hentai.

The way I see it, the only way that animation will finally be taken seriously here in America is if a big studio takes an even bigger risk by having their animation branch create a PG-13 blockbuster feature in the same vein as many, many other films that are released each year.

That's something they will never do, they are too complacent and are all too willing to stay in their comfort zone, just to save money. "Mature" refers to the age of the target audience not emotional or mental maturity. This isn't something new to act confused about. In the hundreds, if not thousands of times a film was marketed as "for mature audiences", it has always referred to age.

It means that there may be swears, violence, and/or sex that parents don't want their kiddies to see.

That's all.

No one except some spergs on the internet would think "mature" means sophisticated or intelligent in this context.

I loved it personally because while I went in expecting dick jokes, I got that but also a bit of a heartfelt yet badass story and the moral of the show probably won't resonate much with /co/

the entire film is a parody and joke about masculinity roles, how every barbarian is a huge frank frazetta Conan motherfucker except for Ronal who is smarter and more sensitive, as well as a female character who is TOO strong and men hate her because she's stronger/more skilled at combat than she is, and they hit it off, the underlying moral being that traditional gender roles are up to you to decide. I figure something like that's just too SJWy for /co/
>>
>>84347479
there are two kinds of people on /co/

people who feel the need to throw a shitfit about everything that can possibly be perceived as SJW pandering

and people who, despite being people who spend time on /co/, still have better things to do than argue with those people
>>

>>84347479
I haven't watched the movie myself yet, but I'm kind of worried reading your description because it sounds like it buys into a false dichotomy - the classic nerd mantra of "nevermind those jocks, they're idiots anyway", when in the real world it's perfectly possible to be both smart, sensitive, and a huge Frank Frazetta Conan Motherfucker all at once.

...Maybe I'm expecting too much nuance out of a silly 89 minute comedy.

It has pretty much everything that people are clamoring for.

Not mature in the LOL WEED, LOL DICKS or THIS AIN'T YOUR DADDYS CARTOONS way. (Although I won't deny a certain edginess but that comes with the genre, a thriller. This was made post Silence of the Lambs)

Hollywood does not care about any of those things, just making a lot of money with as little risk as possible. Stoner comedy fits that requirement perfectly, just like PG-13 rated horror.
