I really hated the fighting. Having a super-anime zippy flightly everyone-hits-a-dozen-times-a-second style is fine and good, but then you give that style to a character who is, according to the storyline, still a child? Even a "oh-she-has-such-POTENTIAL"-child?
How are you supposed to demonstrate improvement and growth when everyone starts the series (hell even in the trailers!) zipping around at the speed of sound and dispatching a dozen of the enemy at once. Even Naruto and Bleach who are the fucking kings of bullshit powers knew you started small and built up.
You're meant to be Goku-strong at the END of the series, not the beginning. I gave up at the end of season two when the big threat was used to make an AMV and dispatched painlessly to demonstrate the four new op characters.

The problem there is the plot only shows up at the middle and end of Season 3. Which is pretty fucking ridiculous. The only thing happening in Seasons 1 and 2 is the criminals shitting around then letting some Grimm into the city. Which didn't need two whole seasons to set up that, yes, they're doing something mysterious beyond just being criminals. All of this really only accomplishes setting up the situation of Season 3 anyway. Before then Season's 1 and 2 should've been more heavily condensed into one season, and maybe even sped up Season 3 a bit.
The fundamental problem is the show is caught between action set pieces and trying to do character and plot development, and it's pretty much only doing that one character or relationship at a time. This resulted in 2 seasons of decompressed set up and then everything happening in Season 3. I can't exactly recall my thoughts on it now, but I was struck by how unconnected all of the development and plot was. It frequently felt like characters, and the story, were put on hold so other people could do their own thing without anyone tripping over each others feet. More tightly working everything together here would've given the show overall more time to work with, especially to condense Seasons 1 and 2.
And, honestly, the characters are barely interesting to begin with. The side characters often seem more interesting, because their cliches aren't given a chance to stink up the main story with entry level melodrama retardation (except Jaune and Pyrrha's thing). I was astounded when I realized the last two seasons of RvB were written by one of the writers of RWBY, because it was a tier above. It actually managed to give me unironic enjoyment of the characters and story. Perhaps because it had years and years of previous set up to build on, but maybe also because RWBY is aiming for anime schlock and forgot it needs to be interesting on its own merits beyond relying on the schlock.

I am probably the most pathetically unironic RWBY fanboy around, and even I'd be hard-pressed to say it's actually "about" anything for most of the first two seasons. The best thing I can say about the plot up until now is that's it's like a Final Fantasy prologue--an extended introduction to the world and characters intended to make you care when it gets blown the fuck up so the actual story can start.
I dont understand RT anymore at all to be honest. They clamour shit behind RTX because they consider it should be an exclusive event when in all seriousiness no other company or studio does that sort of shit.
They think "rtx" is a huge thing when in comparison it really isnt and its geogrpahically fucking hard to attend unless you live in texas. They have RTX australia but they do nothing with that.
RT's a company with its head so far up its arse i dont think there's any point in getting super invested into them. Their merch is over priced, the company is run by children and they've just fired another lot of people including Meg Turney who was arguably one of the more redeeming factors (she actually did a good job presenting on the know). Ray hasn't done anything in forever which people suspect is related to RT cock blocking him from streaming but at this point, RT's a pathetic excuse for a company and they should be shot and burred for what they've become.

I've been saying that RT should have remade the first season for a long time. It's so amateurish compared to the rest because all the background characters aren't even designed: They're just shadows. The first season was also relatively short, so it's not like they have to redo everything. RT has the money and animators now and it's pretty sad that they thought the rushed first season is good enough for foreigners, let alone mainstream audiences.

I'd argue despite its size RTX is still a joke of a con with how much RT boasts about it. They lock everything behind arbitrary exclusivity and then demand every other site outside of the convention does not leak information that occurs during those "private" moments.

Except it has but it isn't done in the style that RT does it. If there's a leak they usually go around and shut it down instantly and hold any site that supports it hostage. They did this to the subreddit which alot of people called out on as being a complete cop out.

RT's business model is a bad example of how to treat a community. The community is riddled in entitled shit dicks who believe no one should be allowed access to content because they aren't paying. I've had people throw the "you aren't paying so you cant have a say" argument at me. Yes im not paying sponsorship but as an active consumer of their product i am allowed a say because i represent a large portion of the community along with other fans.

I think hostage is a poor choice of words, i'm more so refering to the fact they're not letting them post leaks because its one of the largest RT communities out there, so they'd deny them shit like AMA's and what not.
I've had a very strong opinion about the company and its ethic, which was solidified when they tried to pull "sponsors get everything one week before the rest" which just showed how far they were willing to go to get money. I admire and respect his work ethic, but I absolutely despise is philosophy. To make something and a lot of it despite of quality standard. He stuck to poser because it would take too many growing pains to learn maya, and rushed story in general to shove it to the audience of look at. This is terribly inefficient and it reflects on the final product, there is a reason why so many other industry studios work together to make a single shows. Rooster Teeth insists on holding back the potential of the show in order to just make something by keeping it all in house, hiring amateurs to voice, script and design. It boggles my fucking mind, but it may just be me.

That's why in season 2 they actually remedied the problem by having the background character actually look like people. No i think you're on point with all of that. RT is known for being very closed off with hiring outsiders. Prior to RWBY being announced there was like, 0 recruiting postions for animators and one day they just come out with a new animation and people were like "Where the heck is the man power for this?" since you called tell in all the trailers there were lots of production issues.
I hate how their VA's are all in house ones and they're just reaching out to industry professionals rather than hiring new talent. Seriously RWBY would be a good show for new VA newbies to grow but instead they insist on using industry standard ones of their shitty in house ones. I think Kara is the only one i can really stand, the rest are sub-par.
